Now THAT was a great Futurama finale

A question

To confirm, the Bender that knew how to fix the sim was from an even more outer simulation, thus proving that the 'main' universe was also a simulation?

They didn't explicitly say it but that would match the theme

[–] steal_your_face@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

need to rewatch that part but that’s what I initially assumed

[–] Rozz@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 year ago

yes, they just didn't catch on or say it

Late to the party here, but yeah that was my take as well. As the inner simulation was about to burn planet express down, the professor made a comment about how catastrophic it would be given all the "doomsday" devices he has. I inferred that to mean that if all those doomsday devices went off, the outer simulation would be unable to simulate it, revealing that the "main" simulation was a simulation in itself; so outer bender came to the "main" simulation with the intention of stopping that from happening.

Oh I didn't even consider the doomsday devices, that makes a lot of sense :)

Absolutely.

Finally a GREAT episode this season! Some of the jokes fell flat and this wasn't a top 5 episode, but it was still really good!

Felt like a classic Futurama episode. Really enjoyed it. In the end, this is what's important.

This was a top episode

  • Story about more a sci-fi concept, and it made sense
  • Jokes that landed well
  • Characters not being totally dumb for no reason
  • Good resolution at the ending

Great finale

I just hope this is a season finale and not a series finale because if it is the latter it would be the worst so far

Good resolution at the ending

In more ways than one! Hah!

This season was great a lot of original content and this one topped all of the..I really loved this season and I feel like it lives up to the old episodes. I really don't understand the bad reviews.

Just finished watching it. While not as funny as some episodes from previous seasons I enjoyed it. Probably my favorite episode of this season.

Best episode this season, still mad about whatever that space king episode was though.

I stand by my opinion: It was AI/ChatGPT generated.

They let ChatGPT write an episode of Futurama, they animated and voiced it with effort, to prove that writers cannot be replaced by AI. They can now always point at this episode's low ratings and tell executives "that's why you need us".

And they immediately contrasted that by doing the Block-Segment in E10 - to show that a good story, even with minimal animation, can still succeed and be more entertaining than AI.

That's also why E10 is all about artificial intelligence and being simulated, that's also why E1 (!) had that bit showing a writer's room with dead, overworked people and bender as an AI replacing them, but producing crap. And guess which episode was reference in E10 again? Yep, exactly that episode 1.

[–] joel_feila@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

possible but they would have to know the issues with chat gpt were coming up months before they really stared. That impossible

[–] beefsquatch@programming.dev 5 points 1 year ago

This one was really good! For sure my favorite of the season

[–] silverbax@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Finally a decent episode.

Did bender force his way back up or did a new bender work his way down?

[–] otter@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

I think a new one was sent down, because the simulation (where they were all in the ship watching the star) still had a conscious bender

[–] Holyhandgrenade@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

First episode of this season to hit me in the feels. I kind of felt the whole simulation aspect had been done in a more clever way in Rick and Morty, but overall a very solid episode. What a breath of fresh air after the turd that was episode 9.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Finally, a Futurama episode that felt like a fucking Futurama episode! If only it had been like this since the initial reboot.

[–] BonfireOvDreams@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

This will be remembered fondly. I quite enjoyed the first two episodes of the season as well

Second worst episode I've seen in this season so far (next to Children of a Lesser Bog). Can't stand when they do these alternative animation episodes.

Hell, most of this season has been a disappointment. Dated jokes that fall flat more than they land. This used to be my favorite show but now I'll be surprised if it lasts more than 2-3 seasons before getting canceled again.

Best episode of the season. Well done to everyone. Loved every bit of it.
