A place to share alternatives to popular online services that can be self-hosted without giving up privacy or locking you into a service you don't control.

Rules:

  1. Be civil: we're here to support and learn from one another. Insults won't be tolerated. Flame wars are frowned upon.

  2. No spam posting.

  3. Posts have to be centered around self-hosting. There are other communities for discussing hardware or home computing. If it's not obvious why your post topic revolves around selfhosting, please include details to make it clear.

  4. Don't duplicate the full text of your blog or github here. Just post the link for folks to click.

  5. Submission headline should match the article title (don’t cherry-pick information from the title to fit your agenda).

  6. No trolling.

Hey there,

I recently got increasingly annoyed by all the newsletters that keep to pop up in my (admittedly rather old) E-Mail-Accounts and I thought it might be a cool idea to have them unsubscribed from in bulk. Now I know of services like unroll.me, but those will of course scrape everything they can from your mail account. So: Is there any self-hosted alternative to these services so I can run them myself?

Thanks in advance :)

If you are hosting your own mail server, a procmail recipe shouldn't be too difficult. I run mimedefang, so could do it there too, but that's a whole lot of overkill if you don't already have that.

That would be neat. I recently started using Fastmail which offers a feature for this. They have some info on how it works which could give ideas to selfhost. Like which headers it uses. https://www.fastmail.help/hc/en-us/articles/6905792637967-Unsubscribe

I never noticed fastmail has this, probably because I don't use the webmail interface as often. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah I didn’t see the option until I started using their mobile app.
