Epic Music

Epic music is a community dedicated to music that speaks to the soul either lyrically, melodically, instrumentally, aurally, rhythmically, vocally, technologically, emotionally, temporally, or in some other profound way.

The epic music community is not limited to the epic music genre--which features powerful, dramatic, and emotional orchestral compositions, often used in film, video games, and trailers.

The answer to this would be good to include in the sidebar so people would have a better idea what’s ok to post.

Epic music is its own genre, but it can also be used to describe music more broadly - music from other genres that evokes a feeling of awe or other strong emotion.

The, uh, other place’s epic music community describes it this way:

“Music that speaks to the soul either lyrically, melodically, instrumentally, aurally, rhythmically, vocally, technologically, emotionally, temporally, or in some other profound way.” (a broad definition that would encompass multiple genres)

What kind of music would you like this community to focus on?

EDIT:

I just came across ascallion's post on !newcommunities@lemmy.world from 2 months ago where they described it as Cinematic music that speaks to the soul.

That description answers my question.

The post was mostly aimed at ascallion@lemmy.world, but hearing what the community wants might help them to decide as well.

My vote would be for a broader definition.

  • Less headaches for mods, since they wouldn’t have to worry about users who unknowingly post non-genre music. Also, it isn’t always easy to know if a song belongs in the genre.
  • Users wouldn’t have to worry about whether a song they have in mind fits, making participating easier and less stressful.
  • I think it would appeal to more people, since (I assume) most people would visit the community having a broad/descriptive definition in mind, leading to more community growth.
  • There’s far more music that can be shared, leading to more diversity in the posted music.
