Following the spirit of spreading across the Fediverse (and because my main instance is down so many times, because diverse reasons) I'm intrigued about the joining instance process, because I honestly don't know what criteria to have in order to join another one if I ever want to do it.

That made me curious of how you decided to join?

I firstly join to lemmy.fmhy.ml thanks to Spez and a Reddit post from FMHY subreddit, then the tragedy occurred, then I joined to lemmy.world which is/was my main one because I pictured it like a good home, then lemmy.fmhy.net revived and I am with them too, but seems like they are in a bit of trouble with the server, finally now I am in lemm.ee, but only because I just wanted another backup, not because I searched for it especially (also it was mentioned in a comment about smaller instances and one user from here throw a joke to not join here because it sucks so that way the server would be more stable, so yeah, I joined).

To be clear I am not in search for yet another instance (that sounds like a good instance name to be fair), I just want to know how the deciding process is for you, is it just random? Is it because of personal tastes?

I couldn't care less about NSFW stuff, I don't search for it specifically, but my day won't be ruined if I see a tit.

I like gaming, tech, Linux, SBC gaming, emulation, macOS, Android stuff etc (yeah how original) should I look for an instance dedicated to that if I ever want to join yet another one? Because I see topics like this in almost any instance.

I read you lemmings!

EDIT: BTW the migration process has been easier for me thanks to LASIM, so I wouldn't be scared if I ever want/have to migrate again.

At the time (which was over a year ago ๐Ÿ‘ต) it was the only Lemmy instance that didn't have a verification process and I was impatient but I stayed for the community and really like it here!

I joined lemmy.world because it sounded nice. Was easy to remember.

I really had no reason to choose specific one, so why not this one?

I'm on Lemmy.world. I just picked it because it was one of the biggest, but I haven't been entirely happy with it.

[โ€“] kratoz29@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah it's fair... But to be honest it is hardly lemmy.world's fault...

Some of it is though. For example, they take forever to update their servers when new versions of Lemmy are released and it often breaks compatibility with apps. They also have constant service disruption. Even if it is ddos attacks, they should be trying to mitigate them.

admin is nice. felt cozy when i first loaded it up
btw I've got a (free) domain: beeg.pp.ua and an old craptop, so I'm thinking about self-hosting my instance

I thought the name was cool, and I liked that it was a relatively smaller instance. I tried a few other instances just for the sake of shopping around, but Lemmy.zip just seems nice. Admins are cool, too.

I originally joined lemmy via lemmy.fmhy.ml, 'cause you know, my "Linux ISO's" needs to get well distributed.

However, they got in trouble and I like Lemmy, so I started looking for other instances. Eventually, I found monero.town and since I already use monero.social as my matrix home, I signed up for it.

Never encountered any problems with it. The devs also seem pretty cool.

Started on lemmy.ml, when they were experiencing some performance issues I decided to "be distributed" away from one of the main instances. Decided on one geographically in my home country.

It was the one with the least stupid sounding name.

I joined here because EMPRESS reccommended here at the time. After her getting banned from this instance, I've been looking for an instance to switch but didn't find one that's open for all sorts of users and isn't heavily defederated, so I stuck with here.

Mine is araik the only that's specific to my country (except a kbin one) and I decided to stay over here and support it (by both creating traffic and financially) despite it being orders of magnitude smaller than the mainstream ones.

Well they said their servers were powered by renewable energy up to 99% and they host French and English communities. I'm an environmentalist who speaks French and English. When I saw that I said : "That's my home now!"

Take a look at this post. Observe all the offensive comments.

None of them are visible on Beehaw. That's why I'm still on this instance.

Kinda picked it at random when scrolling through my choices.
