The only thing they care about is power over others.

They literally have never cared about anything else.

Racism, misogyny, homophobia, and so on. It's all rooted in seeking power over others. They need others to be able to shame to make themselves feel big.

Rape is also about power. Shocker that Trump is a convicted fucking rapist.

It's about power and control and nothing the fuck else. They don't give a single flying fuck about anything else in life at all, and never have.

When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles.

-Frank Herbert, Children of Dune

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

-Jean-Paul Sartre

I mean, Trump is actually delusional because he was taught by his father and Roy Cohn to never, ever admit defeat and that things like getting old or becoming ill are "weakness." That's why a 72-year-old Trump called himself a "young, vibrant man." He genuinely thinks he is young. Admitting he is a fragile old man would literally result in total narcissistic collapse. Just like his father Fred Trump before him, he will slip into dementia while fully believing he is special and will live forever and no one is as special or as perfect as him. And just like Fred Trump, his family is taking advantage of him while it is happening. Couldn't happen to anyone more deserving honestly.

Everyone who is like "but this is elder abuse!" Yeah, so a fitting punishment for someone who committed elder abuse to his own fucking father.

I've been living under a rock - are you referring to Trump's civil case against E. Jean Carroll or is there a criminal case out there that's just not showing up on the first page of search results?

are you referring to Trump’s civil case against E. Jean Carroll

Yep.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/07/19/trump-carroll-judge-rape/

“The finding that Ms. Carroll failed to prove that she was ‘raped’ within the meaning of the New York Penal Law does not mean that she failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape,’ ” Kaplan wrote.

He added: “Indeed, as the evidence at trial recounted below makes clear, the jury found that Mr. Trump in fact did exactly that.”

Kaplan said New York’s legal definition of “rape” is “far narrower” than the word is understood in “common modern parlance.”

Probably a step too far to say "convicted" (since that implies criminal court) but I don't particularly feel bad when I'm dealing with people who lie as easily as they fucking breathe.

That WaPo article was one of the top search results - thanks for clarifying. I unplugged from the news after the last election, so now I'm playing catch-up.
