Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

He won't apologize for killing queer folks, what the fuck are they doing this for?

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 31 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Because if "you approve of assassination then the right starts to assume it's okay that you're next"

But they already do, so I second queermunist - why lick the boot already stomping on your neck?

"The right" isn't a monolith, they have different tolerance levels, different triggers that enable or excuse worse behavior, changing with the norms of the particular Overton window and with the boundaries of "acceptable discourse." When what is "acceptable discourse" degrades, it enables worse behavior. So at any given moment, some right-wingers are almost crazy enough to start killing, and presumably the strength of our norms is a part of that.

Note that none of this is about what is "justified." Sure, it's justified to act as badly as these bigots. But it doesn't help, it just accelerates the spiral towards fascist conflict.

This is wisdom, thank you for being the voice of reason.

Is it really bootlicking to say "back I don't think it was cool to assassinate Trump"?

I mean it's a lie but bootlicking?

[–] DessertStorms@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yes. It is literally licking the boot stomping on their necks, the man has spent years actively acting against the community and contributing to a hostile environment that costs lives.

Pretending like being civil to a literal nazi is reasonable is bootlicking too.

Do you think the right is waiting for permission from us? Did you forget about the plot to kidnap Gretchen Witmer? Or when Paul Pelosi was assaulted with a hammer by a right wing home invader? Or, you know, when they tried to do a coup?

The right already believes it's okay.

This user has been posting shit like this a bunch. With headlines about how people are condemning the attempt. I wonder if there is an agenda behind it.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Jeffw? He's an active Lemmy poster and mod of many communities and always posts a ton of news content. Considering the recent events, it's not that surprising that a lot of news would be about groups paying lip service to wanting a fair political climate.

[–] rigatti@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think they mean the person who made the comment.

He has been posting headlines condemning the attempt specifically. just because he is a mod and active doesn't mean he can't be trying to garner sympathy for a fascist in power.

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Step 1. Fascist attempt to overthrow government campaigning on eradicating LGBT

Step 2. "Hey that's not good"

Step 3. "Hey stop pushing an agenda"

Bruh of course there's an agenda. It's called "wanting to not be eradicated"

I'm sorry that wanting what's best for the world offends you. Maybe you should consider moving to Israel, I hear they don't push agendas there.

Edit: unless you're talking about op, in which case sorry.

[–] StoneGender@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 months ago

Yes I'm talking about op being a typical liberal saying that people should condemn violence towards Nazis in power

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 months ago

He won't apologize for killing queer folks

indeed. trump is completely removed from the suffering of others. everything has been performative so far. but the dems best be packing political heat in 72 hours or america is collectively cooked - but I have no faith that they will get their act together.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago

For fucken once I agree. At best the response shouldve been silence, just keep thine mouth shut. If ya only have good to say then its better to say nothing at all.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 months ago

Correct were annoyed it was an attempt
