Now let's see about blocking photo posts and other low-effort garbage, too, while we're at it.
It's pretty clear from the vote and the comments on the poll post that we want this to be the equivalent of /r/games - text posts and links only. If someone needs to show off their hall effect stick mod or a photo of some dude flipping the bird, they can do it in a hardware-dedicated or circlejerk community where that kind of thing belongs (respectively).
Pictures are allowed as long as it starts a useful discussion. This is because a picture can be helpful in supporting the question or statement.
And beyond that. For moderators on Lemmy, there's pretty little that can be done. We can delete comments and posts, ban someone and lock a post to the community page. That is all there is to it.
Are we pretending that this sort of garbage is going to start a useful discussion? It's 100% circlejerk material.
I think that would qualify as a meme though ;).
As stated in the post. Memes posted before the new rules will remain.
