Another person conflating the opinion column with the official stance of a paper lol
They elevate his words and give him a platform, so yeah, the New York Times bears responsibility for the words they choose to print/render. I very much doubt Peter Coy held the NYT editor-in-chief at gunpoint to get this posted.
Would you feel the same if they posted a Richard Spencer opinion piece on their platform advocating white nationalism? Would that just be an opinion piece the Times shouldn't be responsible for elevating?
Because our capitalist owner class is hurting people with abandon for ever moooaaaar private profit, not masturbating in their basements fantasizing about hurting people with abandon for fun like Richard Spencer's ilk. The capitalists aren't letting their horrific dreams stay horrific dreams.
The point of the editorials is to publish dissenting views, not to cultivate an echo chamber. If you don’t understand the difference between dissenting political speech and hate speech, then there’s nothing I can really say here.
You are welcome to submit your own response to The NY Times.
The people defending this economy are defending the innumerable victims it creates. I don't consider defending capitalists who literally do and have poisoned towns of children for sociopathic maximization of private profit to be somehow better than a white nationalist hypothetically poisoning a specifically minority town of children for their sick race games.
Neither is better than the other, one is merely accepted and sickly glorified solely because they conquered our society and are fully in charge. People who are eager to profit off the misery of others belong locked away in mental health facilities for public safety, our society has simply been propagandized to forget that the character deficit of greed, oh I'm sorry "rational self-interest," is every bit as destructive as hate, and is historically more effective at it.
3rd party here. what is stopping you from starting your own greedy business?
The point of capitalism is to perpetually separate labor from most of the value it produces that would otherwise be used to do so, keeping them in subsistence, and even in doing so often propagates the problem because it's initially safer and cheaper to open and have fealty to a franchise because its a losing battle to attempt to compete with the scale of the big players in most conquered economic sectors.
Either way, you're enriching the sociopaths, by design. They can steal your labor as an employee or a franchisee, or you can most likely fail opening an independent business in the age of sociopathic behemoths that can do what you can do for a fraction of the price shittily, but as Walmart proved in destroying main street decades ago, capitalism breeds desperation, which means all most people are forced to care about is cheap.
So TLDR, I don't open that independent hardware/electronics/whatever store because statistics are against me and failure leaves one who doesn't already hold significant capital in an even worse situation. Funny how the capitalist defenders try to cut it both ways, "you're where you are because you don't take risks! Also if you end up destitude its your own fault for acting irresponsibly."
