I never get why people think that a online game should be a free speech platform. It’s no different than any irl sports match. Go tell a ref to kill themselves and you’d be booted off the pitch.

they know they're less likely to face repercussions online, unfortunately

Not a lot of them are familiar with irl sports. Which I think helps explain why the ones who are toxic also tend to be the worst.

Since irl sports teaches you that teamwork, supporting each other, and getting your head in the game and focusing on playing it more than being a dick to a teammate are strategies for success.

Oh, there are more than enough football fans who whine about taunting or unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Not only when the refs call is bullshit, but on principle. Sadly, there are more than enough morons around.

Oh, and the unbelievable thrill of making an unbelievable comeback. Which is waaaay more satisfying than tilting a teammate into quitting.

Less accountability online than in real life. In real life they're the biggest pussies out there and probably wouldn't even mildly protest, let alone attack or threaten to attack someone. They are more confident online because the stakes are lower.
