Later, Forbes fell victim to a $3,000 scam involving fake evidence supporting his beliefs, but continued to assert a conspiracy against him.

Conspiracy theorists claim that, but really they simply take the position "government bad" and lazily cease any further critical thinking. Which is why it's easy to rile them up and feed them into the alt right pipeline.
