After the vote, the U.S. deputy representative to the U.N., Robert Wood, said the resolution was rushed and ignored U.S. diplomatic efforts to get more aid into Gaza and free hostages taken by Hamas militants in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
"We propose language ... that would have reinforced the life-saving diplomacy we have undertaken since Oct. 7, increased opportunities for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, encourage the release of hostages and the resumption of humanitarian pauses and laid a foundation for a durable peace," Wood said.
"Unfortunately, nearly all of our recommendations were ignored."
The US still can stop military aid to Israel instead Biden is using his emergency powers to send them more weapons to kill Palestinians. Not to mention past ceasefires it vetoed. It obviously there will never be an agreeable ceasefire because the actions point to an intended genocide.
The problem is it's not as simple as that. Hamas and Israel are at war. That's an undisputed fact.
Israel is the US's ally. Also an undisputed fact.
Joe Biden is an old politician and Catholic from an era where "Zion" is synonymous with Israel. Calling himself a Zionist, I suspect, is like calling himself a Christian with different words. But "Zionist" doesn't mean the same thing anymore, and I bet he doesn't fully grasp what he's identifying with in a modern sense.
Additionally, and this is the political muck of it, were Israel's ally. Typically, you honor your alliances. I don't know why we're so gung ho about the middle east and Israel, but alliances seem to mean something to heads of state, even if you don't agree with the ally's tactics. I've never been a President, so I don't know what the political calculus is here, but I seriously doubt that genocide is Biden's goal.
Israel does provide the US with strategic and geopolitical advantages. I would be okay if the US just came out and said that it doesn't care about human rights or war crimes, the issue for many of us is the clear hypocrisy in the response between Ukraine and Palestine. Biden and the Democratic Party should also accept that many people in the US care about human rights and Palestine.
but I seriously doubt that genocide is Biden’s goal
Begin said he was shocked at how passionately Biden supported Israel’s invasion when Biden “said he would go even further than Israel, adding that he’d forcefully fend off anyone who sought to invade his country, even if that meant killing women or children.” Begin said, “I disassociated myself from these remarks,” adding: “I said to him: No, sir; attention must be paid. According to our values, it is forbidden to hurt women and children, even in war. Sometimes there are casualties among the civilian population as well. But it is forbidden to aspire to this. This is a yardstick of human civilization, not to hurt civilians.” The comments were striking from Begin, who had been notorious as a leader of the Irgun, a militant group that carried out some of the worst acts of ethnic cleansing accompanying the creation of the state of Israel, including the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre.
Do you have any response to the second half of this post, the part about Biden being enthusiastically on board with Palestinian genocide? Or are we ignoring that part to keep pretending he's not fascist?
He has a tendency to do that, as the rest of the thread has shown. A lib with pig shit for brains, rolling in the mud and thinking so highly of himself for it.
But "Zionist" doesn't mean the same thing anymore, and I bet he doesn't fully grasp what he's identifying with in a modern sense.
So we're in the position where a sitting US president is making speeches using words he doesn't understand? Wow, that does not seem great. Maybe we should have a president who knows what words mean, you know?
Also, I have to admit, I don't care if someone has genocide as a goal or not. I care a bit more about their actions. Will a person's actions lead to more genocide? If so, then I think that person should be removed from power, immediately, regardless of what they think about genocide.
why veto the UN ceasefire?
What exactly do you think the UN does? It has no power.

Maybe allying with an ethnostate is part of the problem

Respond, coward

He's never gonna reply, running dog confirmed (but we already knew that)
Bro just ignored the main part of the response

The UN does have the power to impose sanctions and a ceasefire.
That power is subject to veto by the US.
Which vetoed it.
You fucking moron.
