The implementation google pushes for is, also couldnt find any foss rcs apps

After a quick googling it looks like RCS is a proprietary standard of GSMA and not open in any implementation.

Am I missing something here? I assume you have more info than me so maybe there's more insight on there being open implementations.

I also think that, but im not sure, what I am sure is that the Google implementation is not

wtf I didn't even think about checking if RCS was open source, I thought it was obviously! I was hoping so much from RCS, are SMS also proprietary?

there's the part that google added on top, which isn't open.

And then there's rcs itself, which isn't open either. You need to get a license from the gsma
