Anonymity is another.

Privacy is being secure in your files, your thoughts, your private and group conversations.

Anonymity gives you safety to share your findings. Whether that's whistleblowing or ideas or results, having your real identity attached may be more risk than it's worth. Why do we need both?

Since these are separate things, it makes sense for Anonymity to have its own sub.

Isn't it counterproductive to split a niche forum into smaller parts for growth and hence success of it?

It was created more for specialization than to split the community. As others have pointed out, anonymity is a particular kind of privacy. There's no exclusivity. You can be in both.

Though it's hard to know the effect of another sub, Privacy is one of the largest subs here so seems one of the most likely to be able to survive an offshoot.
