Well that sucks, especially since I like several of his movies.

In the meantime, the Behind the Bastards episode on The Satanic Panic really highlights how recent notions like consent and concern for child sexual assault really is. In the 1970s and 1980s, domestic violence and child abuse were regarded as no-one's business outside the household.

So yeah, a lot of people with power abused their position unconscionably.

Child rape was always child rape, and if the people of 50 years ago were okay with child rape then that's one very good reason that decent people stopped listening to them 50 years ago

Then there were no decent people in western civilization, since culture was generally blind to children's welfare and glad to let orphans die. Case in point, child industrial labor, and the children's welfare movement only followed the animal welfare movement, once someone noticed that maybe if animals should be treated well, so should human spawn.

If you want to toss away all of western civilization because they didn't recognized the interests of kids... I say you go! The same institutions give no fucks about the current future of humanity, hence the climate crisis and the minimal response to it, and countless other contamination crises they could have prevented but didn't.
