American's always seem to claim they carry guns for self defense but in so many cases it's apparent that's a fabrication.

Imagine spending your time desperately fantasizing daily about the chance to legally use your firearm. Maybe one day you'll be a hero or at least can act in self defense. So many days go by and yet, no one is trying to hurt or kill you.

So many banal and similarly uneventful days...

... Then, surprise! The day finally happens. A shop lifter goes to steal something. That's a crime! It's a crime, and I'm in danger, right? You get tunnel vision, adrenaline starts pumping as fight or flight kicks in. Rationality goes out the window and now your sole focus is to ensure you can pull that firearm and actually shoot this criminal. Suddenly you realize the thief is almost out the door. Your fantasy, your chance is never gonna happen again. His back is turned, it's a clear shot, and you fire striking and killing him.

It's fucking dumb and there's no doubt in my mind that there are a ton of Americans who are either living scared or have a Hero Complex that own firearms just itching for their chance to use it legally.

A lot of gun owners don’t take safety seriously enough, either. Some of them leave loaded, unsecured firearms “hidden”, kids inevitably find them, and there are WAY too many tragic, completely preventable deaths. It’s completely insane.
