Acronyms are not typically dependent on the pronunciation of the words for which their letters stand. Here's a brief look at how a few common acronyms would be pronounced if they were:

  • JPEG -> jfeg
  • LASER -> less-ear
  • SCUBA -> scub-aah
  • NATO -> nut-oh
  • ROM -> Rome
