What are some mostly universal gifts for thanking people for doing you a big favor or being good hosts? (kbin.social)

Like for me my go to is offering to buy them a meal. But I'd like to know other options

Flowers is an interesting one, even if the receiver is a man? In Mexico, US, and probably a lot of Canada this would be seen as either a romantic advance or a joke unless you have a very intimate (can be platonic) relationship with them already and generally just for women even then
