How can we make it more popular?

Also, if you want to grow Lemmy, the best thing you can do is comment and respond to everything (With thoughtfulness of course), because the value of reddit (and Lemmy) is always in the comments, so that's the best way to contribute.

Yes, I agree, person whose comments I see under literally every post

[–] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You should have seen me when I was promoting my movie here.

I'm like Lemmy's George Takei.

[–] SnipingNinja@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I really want to believe that Margot Robbie advocates for the fediverse and likes Android enough to be a mod on it's subreddit

[–] MargotRobbie@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

No, I'm just here to shitpost and promote my last movie, and I'm all out of movie promotions.

(Why? Because it's really funny.)

Hello, I see you a lot around too!

Let's gooo. I'm famous!

EDIT: I also see you very often, it goes both ways

I was always a lurker on reddit because every time I spoke my mind I would get silenced/banned/whatever. Literally every time I ever tried to say anything that wasn't 100% in lockstep with the hive mind, shut down, so I stopped bothering. So far Lemmy has been great in that regard!

[–] lightnegative@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The thing is, it made for some hilarious trolling opportunities.

And occasionally you'd find someone also going against the hivemind that shared your views

[–] average_internet_enjoyer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Curious me here, how would you troll?

[–] lightnegative@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

For example, in the r/newzealand Reddit which is full of bleeding heart social justice warrior lefties, I would post comments in support of one of our minor parties that sits more centre-right on the spectrum (there is an election on at the moment)

That really riles them up, I get a heap of downvotes but also a couple of supportive comments from the 2% of other people on that sub that dare have a different opinion from the hivemind

[–] average_internet_enjoyer@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

omg this is just poking the bear. I love it

On other unrelated things, this is why political groups should be not reserved, leaves an echo chamber that traps people

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

I'm trying to keep my disagreements and discourse that way as much as I can in my own responses. What we don't have in completeness of software, we (hopefully) have in community and heart.

For a while I was on squabblr, and the thing they did right was to encourage lurkers to post and comment.

[–] lemann@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You still active on there? If not, what tempted you make the jump over here to us 😁?

I vaguely recall there being some situation on Squabblr (previously squabbles, for those ootl) regarding free speech, and a ton of users moving to Discuit

[–] Microw@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Yup, tons of users quit at once when the mod team faltered because of disagreements with the admin regarding hate speech content. That's when I decided to look for a different platform and migrate completely to Lemmy (was here before as well)
