Tbf, they tried dual screen with a console and it flopped (for various reasons). With the switch acting as both a console and handheld device, I can see why they dropped dual screens.
Neither the DS nor the 3DS flopped, on the contrary. the DS was the most sold console in the world
And it gave us new experiences, new ways to play and also made some stuff better (like having extra info, like maps, information or access to the inventory, having that meant you didn't need to pause the game)
I believe by dual screen + console + flop they meant the dual screen setup the Wii U had.
For sure, I’m not saying the DSs flopped. But with Nintendo dropping a dedicated handheld line, I can see one of the main features of that handheld line went with it.
