No, we're not surprised that Porsche is making an expensive car. The surprise is that specifically the Macan is starting that high. That's a $20k upcharge for the EV. Yes, Porsches are expensive, but this is far more of an upcharge to go EV than any other maker.

Lots of EVs are a much more than their ICE counterparts, especially on a percentage basis. Compare an ID4 vs Tiguan, or an XC40 vs recharge, or a lightning to a gas F150z or a Bz4x and a Rav4, or a blazer ev vs ice. These are all 10-15k more, on vehicles that cost less than half as much. This is on par. We don't even know the standard equipment, etc yet.
