That definition of boring reminds me of what I felt when I was experiencing depression last few years. Responses here seem to back it up, as most say that only escape from such place is death, because of inability to do even basic actions around myself. No motivation to create our change, just vegetative state until final void.
Being a hat, without any possibility of creating or interact seem like hell itself in its own right, as in this situation person cannot express themselves. It's tragic and reminds me of vegetative state people. Turning into inanimate object to live forever like that is not a life either. But not having any form of escape makes it worse imho.
Ultimately only difference between those choices is if you choose to make suffering finite or not for yourself. I chose boring life, because it can change. For anyone who has experienced it, let it be known, it can change :)
It could also easily be as boring as the boring choice.
I'd be surprised if the average hat really lives all that long.
I'm with you in choosing the boring life. Also, if worse comes to worse you can just off yourself. Not an option as a hat.
With how much war, malnutrition and unfairness and wealth inequality in the world, I wonder how many people would see at least the boring choice as a massive upgrade over the status quo? I'd guess it's probably a lot.
