It seems to me that the only reason Meta would embrace ActivityPub is so they can federate and scrape our data from the fediverse. Not only would I not use their platform, but I would block my instance from federating with them.
I think it is safe to assume that's happening now anyway. As long as anyone can access the data at the moment, they will too.
True. Now you've got me thinking of ways to identify and prevent accounts from scraping data. I don't see any way to do that other than rate-limiting, which just delays the problem rather than solving it.
