(x-posted from my post on /r/android)

So I've just ordered the newly annouced Z Fold and Watch, and noticed after ordering that the sales tax on Samsung's invoice is higher than my local sales tax rate (10.25%) by 1.025% (of the subtotal).

Posting here (1) as a PSA for others to check their invoice, and (2) wondering if there's some obvious thing I missed before I contact their support.

The order is as follows:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 512GB: $749.99
    • original $1800, free storage upgrade to 512GB, -$1000 for iPhone 14 Pro Max trade in, -$50 for reserve credit
  • Samsung Care+: $167.30
  • Galaxy Watch 6 Classic: $225.00
    • original $450, -$224.99 bundle discount

So, subtotal is $1142.29 as expected. Sales tax in my location (Seattle, WA) is 10.25%, so the sales tax should $117.08, but instead it's $128.79, $11.71 higher than it should be.

Oddly, it's off by exactly 10% (of the expected sales tax amount).

Am I missing something obvious? Does Samsung include some hidden fee in what they call "tax"? Or are they miscalculating the tax?

I saw the rule but thought it’s helpful for the community as if they’re overcharging me, they’re probably overcharging other people, and folks should check their invoice!

Happy to have it moved or reposted if y’all disagree though

I think in cases where you're not completely sure and are hoping to confirm, !askandroid@lemdro.id is a great place for it. If after all of the follow-up and digging into it, it turns out to be a widespread issue then it could be a useful PSA to post on !samsung@lemdro.id and cross-post to !android@lemdro.id (or vice-versa). Thanks!
