Gee, I wonder why, Mr. "Both Sides Are The Same"?
<cough... and caused Al Gore to lose the election, teeing up everything that followed>
Part of me always felt that the whole “Gore lost because of Nader” narrative was started to discourage third party candidates from running at all. We desperately need strong alternatives to the Republicans and Democrats in this country.
We have to sway the the country more to the left, before a third party progressive candidate has a remote chance of winning anything. The United States is far more right wing than most Americans realize, that's why Bernie refused to run as a third party candidate. Doing so would have handed Trump the win by splitting the votes in the left.
Unfortunately there's a lot of money behind pushing the country further to the right. The only chance we have is GenZ actually going out and voting, using their majority to push this county back to where it should be.
I don't think it was some conspiracy to stop 3rd party voters, the fact is Bush won by ~500 votes and nader got almost 100k votes. He wasn't remotely close to a real candidacy, but those 100k voters would have very likely not voted for Bush had nader not been on the ticket.
If you looked at the number of registered Democrats who turned and voted for Bush in Florida that year, it's higher than Nader's vote total. It's on Clinton and Gore for their "triangulation" bullshit. And the Supreme Court for helping Dubya and co. steal it.
You won’t get them until we have ranked choice voting.
Its bullshit Bush fucking cheated along with the electoral college who sided with the Republicans they are to blame.
Al Gore won that election not only the popular vote but the electorals too.
So even if Nader hadn't ran they still would have cheated and we still be here BECAUSE of both sides.
Obama is just as much to blame as is Bush for how America sliding into fascism. But if you really want to put blame somewhere put it on Clinton for allowing money into the party and them carting to the rich.
Clinton moved the Democrats to the center right. He is definitely to blame for a lot of this recent garbage.
