A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

I can't really think of a reason for that as Reddit is hated somewhat equally by "both" sides of the spectrum. It's just something I find interesting.

I disagree. As a conservative I’ve only been banned from one sublemmy for my political alignment.

On reddit I got banned from space after space when my politics became known. Here I’m allowed to exist, which means this place is way less leftist than reddit.

Banning vs. not banning are not hallmarks of leftism, rather it's the difference between communities that are making an effort to be inclusive (a hallmark of leftism, btw) versus communities where the mods are so tired and overworked that it's easier to ban people than adapt to the disruptions they may cause (a capitalist reflex that prioritizes being palatable to everyone over being fair to everyone because it's more time-efficient to be blandly palatable and to enforce case-by-case fairness).

So yeah, from a certain point of view, because of the simple fact that you are being tolerated marks Lemmy as a more leftist platform.

Totally agree - when people start coming out as trolls/bad actors/fascists is when they're rightly silenced

Nope. I was banned for mentioning conservative political opinions.

Sorry bud, how about you start a thread and get some community feedback? Maybe your opinion is problematic or maybe the mods made a mistake.

Idk I'm not psychic

I think Lemmy is just more open than reddit rather than more left or more right. People are actually discussing different viewpoints with the intentions to find compromises that work, and haven't yet fallen into the trap of becoming entrenched and just fighting over which team is right... mostly, seeing some tribalism on here but you can't have a group of humans communicating without it showing up.

I can assure you they're not engaging and merely down voting things they don't like.

Engagement is a two way street, you need to post something worth engaging with.

Occasionally I've seen a valid opinion/idea with some downvotes but there's still usually responses that get a discussion going. Only the true shit has the massive one sided downvote ratio with, unfortunately, a few replies from people who took the bait.
