I looked up other fixes and it involves going to the bios and changing a setting from DRD to XHCI but my bios was set to XHCI by default. Is there any other fixes anyone here knows about?

After an initial period of not running on the Deck, the Proton Hotfix branch allowed the game to be playable - we even had an influx of people showing their macros and settings for the Deck.

However, today, mine is only showing a black screen. GE-Proton, Proton 9, Proton Hotfix - it doesn't matter, just a black screen. If I spam "A" I sometimes get an anti-cheat error.

Anybody else having issues? It's not the servers being down, as I can play normally on my PC.

I was browsing for new games to enjoy on the lovely Deck. This one looked intriguing, but Steam is putting forth lots of warnings saying it's not supported on the Deck. Anybody out there having tried it?

What is your experience playing DS3 on the Steam Deck with an external monitor? what resolution do you use? What kind of performance were you able to squeeze out?

I'm currently playing at 1280x800 on a 4k tv and while this may not sound rather good, my couch is some meters away from the tv so in the end it's not that bad (or I'm not that picky). I'm on high graphical settings and get generally between 50 and 60 fps. Would you recommend switching to 1920x1080?

I am aiming at 60 FPS, but I am struggling to keep it at any settings.

I have performance UI brought up, and I have noticed this. Presets:

  • Ultra -> ~30FPS average, 90% GPU usage, 40% CPU, 65°C
  • High -> ~45FPS average, 80% GPU usage, 30% CPU, 60°C
  • Medium -> ~50FPS average, 40% GPU usage, 30% CPU, 50°C
  • Low -> ~50FPS average, 20% GPU usage, 20% CPU, 40°C

As you can see, I cannot reach 60 FPS in-game even at the lowest preset.

What can I check/do in this case? The Linux binary is being used.

As called by @vala@lemmy.world, the latest stable update has broken remote play.

I think this is really the way going forward with portable gaming.

  • Lighter and smaller handheld
  • A large screen experience in a portable package
  • Privacy
  • Not having to hold the handheld device oriented to view it
  • Replaceable battery is a big plus too!

There is no mention of Linux as the OS but it looks as friendly to Linux gaming as any other AMD based handheld device beside the Steam Deck.

When I try to turn off Use CPU in settings, it says "No compatible graphics card found!".

During the instillation, I got an error "hipErrorNoBinaryForGpu" which I looked up and found the command export HSA_OVERRIDE_GFX_VERSION=10.3.0 which got me through the instillation.

I don't know much about GPUs, so thanks in advance for any help/advice!

And as an extension - how do I change my controller layout while in game mode? I understand I can press the Steam button and then use my trackpad as a mouse, but I'd rather it just permanently behave as a mouse in game mode.

Basically I'd like to use the trackpads as mouse/scroll while browsing my library in Game Mode.

Thank you!

Well, shit. Unfortunate news from the Vinegar Discord: Roblox will block Wine in future releases.

This is going to end my "Steam Deck as a primary desktop PC for my kid" experiment.

Remote play is already semi-broken on stable. In the sense that the video renders super dark unless you disable hardware decoding.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/1246

The beta and preview channels are even worse. The remote play session will just never load at all.

It seems like this is slipping through the cracks. I'm making this post to raise some awareness on the issue. Not sure what we can really do though.

Edit: God damn it valve.

I'd like to play Minetest with a friends over the internet (not the same network). I previously used Hamachi and it worked well but I want to use an easy and open source alternative. So is there any real alternative or should I just continue to use Hamachi?

Does anybody really use the steam deck with multiple users and can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I got the mid range deck, enjoyed how I could play almost my entire library and created a steam account for my oldest son so he could use it, too, without us messing up each other's save games or stats. I set up family sharing for our accounts and added some games to the family library, but from that point onwards the experience has pretty much been a mess for me.

First of all, setting up the family sharing was pretty much a convoluted process where I really didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing... Were the family PINs supposed to be the same for both accounts? Who selects what in order to get the young man to play skyrim? It was all weird, but we eventually managed. The result is, however, an annoying setup that is just weird.

  • When I turn on the deck, it now always starts in family mode on my account, so I always have to enter the PIN before doing anything that is not playing a game that I added to the family library. Which is most of my games. Shop won't open before I enter the pin, nothing works while being in family mode and it always starts in family mode.
  • Considering how often I have to insert the family PIN, it's annoying how buggy the keyboard is with the PIN entry form... Every time I enter a digit via the touch pads, the keyboard just freezes for a second or so. No idea if that has something to do with localisation or something.
  • Starting a game won't ask for the account... I have both accounts set up on the deck, but unlike e.g. the switch, the deck always starts games on the account that was last logged in, no questions asked.
  • There is no proper separation of data for each user. When I added vampire survivors to the family library and he started it on his account afterwards, the first thing that happened was a hundred achievements getting unlocked because his game simply loaded my state. Same for other games which just show save games from all users, which is super annoying for the usual auto save and continue game flow.
  • He says he can't really chat or play games in multiplayer if he's using my shared games on his account... No idea what's going on there, have not yet gotten around to trouble shoot that.

Am I doing something wrong or what is this? We had the deck with us on our last vacation and with the Internet being just not available a lot of the time (which is imperative to switch accounts) and all those issues outlined above, it basically got no usage at all and I'm getting more and more annoyed by this.

EDIT: Pathfinder worked perfectly with the mods! I was even able to have it setup the exact same way by transferring the mods from my desktop mods folder to the decks folders. 👍

Hello, all!

I just wanted to post and say that dual booting with tiny11 has worked flawlessly so far, and I will update you all when I finish downloading Pathfinder and trying it out on the windows side. If it works well enough, I can boot back into SteamOS and delete it from there as I am wanting to play with a few mods and SteamOS breaks them due to UnityModManager being a windows only program.

If you have any questions, I can point you to where I found my answers, or I may even be able to provide some info to address any issues I was also running into during the process. 👍

Hey folks. I have been wondering about buying a dock or USB hub for my steam deck oled for a while now. That way I can connect and use a mouse and keyboard. The problem is that I don't know which one to buy. The official one is not only expensive but also a bit bulky for my use. I would like to have a mini option. What are your recommendations for someone like me?

Important to note that major version changes of proton usually break a lot of games, so try the beta at your own risk.
