Mildly Infuriating

This has happened 3 times in the past 2 days, any advice? It goes away after reboots but always comes back.

Update: So it could be GPU death, how exciting, especially for a 1.5 year old laptop. As of now it hasn’t terribly affected my workflow, but if this persists even after future kernel/driver updates, it may be rip. I am still hopeful that it could be software related, but time will tell!

This is not my pic because I forgot to screenshot it when I did it. Microsoft has the hardest captcha I have ever had to complete. This one looks easier but I had a similar one that on my phone the images were too small, not recognizable and were more abstract looking shapes. It was so hard, I failed like 8 times (there were several 'rounds') and it almost made me second guess whether I might actually be a robot lol. Luckily, there was an audio version where you have to pick from a number of melody recordings and choose the one that was a pattern. Anyone else have trouble with this?

If I only allow "essential" trackers, it will ask me to enable targeted tracking every time I open the app... Not really a choice if it's forced.

Like, you order on, say, Wednesday, and it says the fastest available time is Saturday, then you pull up the page on Thursday, and it says theres a same-day option for later in the day, and even the free option is now Friday (instead of Saturday). And the funny thing is, you can't even cancel the earlier order, that now has a later delivery time. Wtf is this? Bezos trolling?

(This isn't a "lets trash amazon" post, I just can't understand why companies do this weird shit, I always thought order earlier = arrive faster, this is just... weird)

I'm not sure exactly when, but at some point in the past month I stopped getting text messages in a group chat between my mom and siblings. Weird thing is I don't seem to have any problem getting texts sent just to me, or even with other group texts (as far as I know).

We mostly just share memes and shit, but it drives me nuts thinking that someone could be trying to tell me something and it just doesn't reach my phone.

It just baffles my mind of how some of these places are ran by the mod teams. If it wasn't for the masses of people that still flock to them I would've given up a long time ago (now only check like once every two weeks), but by the evidence they (the users) just aren't getting the help they need.

Like 10 mods, and they don't auto-block "new" people from posting (the post had 103 comments when it was locked). Easy to tell this wasn't spam and it was a legitimate person looking for advice.

They suggest logging into your "main" account. As if people want to post identifying pictures of their house under an account which might have lots of references for identification. I just wish they knew how much easier it would be to make a lemmy account instead of jumping through Reddit's hoops, could have a very robust community of tradesmen on here that would attract more people looking for advice.

Does anyone else go looking on amazon because they used to have loads of stuff, but now there's just a few things over and over and over and they're not quite what you wanted. It's so full of promoted content and you keep thinking that somewhere on one of the pages there might be something new, but no, it's these same products again and again.

I finally caved and had to ask.

Lucky for me my parents were both "I didn't save anything for retirement, my kids will take care of me when I'm older", so I don't have to suffer through this.

I feel like everywhere I work, we have this term, and it's become increasingly more common over the past decade as the USA becomes more and more hateful and aggressive towards the working class people... The offshore team. I really, really hate hearing about the offshore team. It's from a certain country in Asia that starts with I But I have nothing against those people that come from that country, it's simply out of concern for my well-being and my survival that it bothers me....

You look at a country like Germany, and how they have a workers council, and a country like France that has proper retirement, then you see the USA and how We have millions of computer science grads who struggle to find work, can't get a job, universities churning out new students in the tens of thousands per year... We shouldn't have an offshore team, at a company that makes billions of dollars, led by people that have so much money amassed up that they could survive for a thousand years spending millions.

It's just embarrassing, that as a society, we are so horrible to each other.

So I lost lost the Username and Passwords to all my 3 credit bureau accounts, and also the email account, this appened like earlier this year, (or maybe last year not sure... anyways...). I didn't bother resetting at the time since I didn't need to get a credit card or loan or anything.

But today I decided to reset those accounts to check my credit. So I started with calling Experian to try to reset the account. So right away, I'm already mildly annoud that a fucking automated voice Bot took the call and then on top of that, they fucking played a fake "keyboard typing" sound to mimic a human typing on a keyboard after every response 🤦‍♂️, like yo I know its a bot, stop with this BS. So it asks what I need help with, "accessing account", okay it asks for SSN and zip code, okay gave that, then this bot just sent a reset to my email, WHICH I DONT HAVE ACCESS TO!!!, okay no problem, I'll just talk to a person, "talk to a representative", okay this is the most infuriating part, bot says "I'M SORRY, I'M ONLY ABLE TO DO THAT IN LIMITED CIRCUMATANCES" (paraphrased, I don't remember the exact wording)... excuse me what the fuck, this audacity of this fucking bot, I say it again, but the only 2 options are "continue" with the automatic self-help system, or "end call"... MOTHERF****R 🤬🤬🤬

Jesus Fucking Christ, who gave these stupid "Credit Bureaus" their authority?

I see a future of:

I live somewhere where everytime I take a bus there is someone sitting on the outside seat of two. On the trains, a seat of two there is a bag or a coat. On the train a seat of four there's a bag, a coat, feet or something else occupying the other seats. In a cafe the same...

So, one day I boarded a bus which was half full but no available seat without asking someone to move. So I picked the biggest guy then gave him a peace of my mind and directed the conversation to all in ear shot.

What happened, he ended up vacating the seat and like a preschooler wanted to know why him and not everybody else.

Ticket inspectors, cafe workers never say a word.

I've been calling around various grocery stores this week, trying to get a hold of pork fat trimmings so that I can make my own lard for some recipes. One of the stores I called today said that they couldn't give me the trimmings because they don't have a code for it. I forget exactly what I said, but it was something to the effect of, "so you're just going to throw it away instead?" "Yes."

I understand that it does require some effort to separate from the rest of the waste, so I don't mind paying a bit, but its upsetting that they have no way to pass scraps along to someone who will use them instead of just tossing them in the waste.

Edit for anyone invested: I called around to a few other stores after making this post. One or two mentioned that they don't necessarily throw all of those bits away, but often use them for other products, such as sausages. I also found a store that will be putting aside their trimmings for me tomorrow, and they should have more than I need. It's almost an hour away on the bus, but right next to another store that should have any other hard to find ingredients that I'll need for the tamales.

Also interesting was that different locations of the same chains had different answers for me regarding even their ability to provide the scraps to me, so the suggestions that a manager might be able to make it happen are probably very accurate.
