Best photo i took on my tour yet, from a few days ago. I was looking for a route through the black forest that would keep me at altitude for a while, ended up on the 'schwarzwald radweg' that i didn't know of before, i liked it a lot, skipped my original route and followed that. It's almost completely motor traffic free, mostly on gravel but everything was ridable with 38mm tires. It was surprisingly lonely on the route, hardly anybody on it, apart from some towns it passes or some more touristy places like feldberg. Involved a lot of climbing but i liked it a lot.

Built it around 2012 out of a second hand MTB frame along with some new and old components. Served well for a few years. Sold to a friend who still rides it.

The dream!

I've got a new rack for my bike, and while I have the option to swap in the large rear reflector from my old one, I'd like to get a mounted light instead.

I'm currently using either clip on or strap mounted lights, and take them off my bike when not in use, so they don't get stolen or to recharge them.

I like the idea of a more permanent light on the rear rack.

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated. Currently looking at the "Planet Bike Grateful Red" light.

Facebook Marketplace FTW ....Saw a great deal hit FB and had to jump on it ASAP! It's not the cleanest because I had to hurry and switch pedals and bags over to commute to work!

This is my rescued Marin Hamilton, that over the years has evolved into a modern take on the old English 3-speed. My former commuter was stolen, and at the same time this appeared, broken, rusty, and abandoned on the same office bike rack (coincidence?). I saved it before the office management sent it to the trash, and got it on the road again.

The wheel bearing races were pitted from rusty neglect and I find SS awkward in the urban stop-start, so after a failed experiment with an SRAM Automatix 2-speed hub I fitted a Sturmey Archer 3 speed. 3rd is a single-speed ratio, 1 & 2 are for hills and setting off. It's a sweet setup for my area and usage, and is almost as robust and low maintenance as SS.

A transportation bike needs fenders (Velo Orange Zeppelins - excellent, effective, silent). The original fork rang like a tuning fork on braking no matter what brakes or pads, so I got a $40 Marin fork off Ebay and converted the front to disk, and put on generator lighting at the same time.

And just now it got some luxury new tires - Schwalbe Marathon Supreme 700x50 on the label, but are actually 43mm, in typical Schwalbe fashion. Great tires though - light and fast and grippy and durable and puncture resistant.

It's a fast and comfortable city bomber. I have a little TSDZ2 motor and battery that I fit each year for commuting the hottest summer months, and then in winter it gets studs to get me through the ice and slush. For fairer weather riding I have a very similar derailleur bike and the pair of them get me around nicely.

In Cambridge, MA, USA, and nearby communities, bike advocates have made real progress with lanes and paths and general infrastructure. Also the city requires that new builds have a proper bike room. This building was recently gutted and fitted out and this is the bike room today - overloaded, and the building is barely half full... Looks like they will need to find more efficient bike racks!

Meanwhile in a recent commute I was in a queue of 30 bicycles at a light at which about 6-8 cars get through at a time. 10-15 years ago I was one of the few bikes on the roads at any time.

Hats off to the advocates and representatives of the local cities that have made this happen through continuous pressure and work over decades...

Heavy and slow. But a fun reliable ride 😁

I bought this Trek in 2003 and rode it a bit but mostly garaged it because I had a new marriage and then 2 young kids. Now that they are old enough to be alone I decided to fall back in love with biking! I have lost 80 pounds, stopped taking most of my blood pressure meds, discovered smart trainers and how not boring it is to be inside now, and commute to work as much as possible and get away on my days off. I am almost at 1800 miles this year between the trainer and on the road.

Hello. I just figured I'd mention this exists and should be similar to r/bikewrench as far as repair specific help, but I am also including sharing shop repair resources if anyone wants to post informative first person noncommercial content to share with others.

Assuming bikewrench gets traction, I will need any help I can get. I am mostly a hardcore roadie and haven't worked in a shop in 6 years.

I have tried: taping them together, hot glueing them together and ziptying it right to the frame to prevent jiggle.

All have failed.

Right now, when I reconnect them and apply pressure, I can't even get the engine to turn on anymore. But the speedometer still works and that signal is sent through the engine cable too.

Recently, sometimes the engine rear wheel barely rolls when I roll the bike backwards.

There are no ebike repair stores in my city.

About 8 years ago I got into cycling and really enjoyed riding, but I ended up moving countries and ended up gradually stopping cycling. Since then I've worked an office job and been pretty much a couch potato.

I'm wanting to get into cycling, but find I can't really stick to it on my own, I am wondering if anyone knows of online communities or groups for people who are unfit but are trying to get into cycling?

We took some scenic routes so speed was definitely not a priority, but very fun nonetheless. Also learned that between Malmö and Helsingborg there is a bike trail(with a mix of actual bikepaths and roads with cars), that has signage the whole way! Sydkustleden is the name of it.

Picture from a little 50km ride I did at the start of spring 2022! This was one of my first longer rides where I tried hauling more weight in my panniers in preparation for a small bicycle tour I did at the end of summer 2022.

As always when I trust in Google Maps in my pretty rural province, I ended up on an ATV trail (note: this picture was taken after about 2km of completely muddy trail full of tire tracks).

At least my beer felt at home.
