Yeah, looks like it just finds the song on YouTube according to this

Using a Spotify account on Spotube with a Premium subscription will do nothing more than a non-Premium account, songs are streamed from YouTube.

I never really minded having different launchers until I got a Steam Deck. Just having native Linux support would make them much less of a hassle.
