I got it decades ago from my grandfather, who could very well have bought it from a random truck stop or something.

No, other than it being a decent source for quicksilver

They'd probably gerrymander them, sadly

Yeah, this is the real question

Have a wiki rabbit hole: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_secession_movements

But perhaps more interesting, the annexation of Texas to the US initially allowed Texas to be split into four additional states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_divisionism -- imagine all those extra senators popping up today if Texas decided to execute on that agreement.

Yeah, the drones are basically maneuvering sea mines now. And many of long term loitering. Going to be weird.

It might not be their own crash. Just a crash that snarled up traffic to drive around.

Atwood is also one of the sanest centrist voices I've ever read, in essays and interviews. (Centrist by Canadian standards -- probably quite left by US standards). She always seems to be acutely aware of institutional inertia and how things like independent courts are vital to free societies. Wish there were more like her.

I'm so burnt out on both universes that it is only the raving reviews of a few entries that will bring me back now. Prior to ~2019 I would literally see every entry in both.

The need for new ideas is paramount.

The tops of the clouds on the night side of Venus are about -45°C. So it's not actually glowing like the image implies. But in infrared, you can reprocess the colours to make a delightful image like the above.

Well, I know you're implying the greenhouse gases will kill us all. And that might be true, but probably not in ten years.

Hey folks, looking for something that scratches an itch. I love the Tales series, but dislike the active combat system. So I'm looking for something in the vein that is low combat or turn based tactical combat.

For comparison, I also enjoy Fire Emblem but wish it was more of an RPG. And have recently replayed Dragon Age: Origins (and wished it was turn based like BG3). In DaO I preferred exploring the Dwarven city over combat by a huge margin.

Graphics don't matter. Depth of story matters. Ideas?

She is ignoring the birding book in favour of Lord of the Rings. Nerd.

Clearly she wants me to read Lord of the Rings

So I found this one season (26 episode) extremely campy sci fi TV show -- a low budget 2007 Canadian production -- called Grand Star. Watched a few episodes last night. OMG it's so terrible it is awesome.

It's like a B-grade GameCube era JRPG got crossed with Snowpiercer. I can't stop watching it somehow.

Anyone else seen this amazing piece of ... something? ;)

Just won the Oscar for best visual

I'm kind of okay with this. It was a reasonable take -- not a hot take or an incendiary comment or something. Mods using their power to shut down discussion -- expected on that instance I guess ;)

This is my first time getting any sort of ban on any lemmy instance. Now I just need to get banned on a right-wing server for some other centrist take, to keep balance in the universe ;)

How many of you have experienced this on lemmy.ml?
