Rental income is considered income, and taxed assuming reasonable tax brackets much higher than investment income (That is to say, caiptal-gains. Interest/Dividends are also taxed at the higher income rate)
The cost of maintaining a livable home, property taxes, insurance, property depreciation, and renter interactions eat into the supposed windfall that landlords make.
I'm not saying it doesn't suck sometimes and that certainly these formulas are out of whack in some situations, but there are no easy answers.
I've had good luck with RetroDeck both docked and on the deck with multiple controllers. Not saying it is always smooth. But at least got it working in some emulators pretty steadily. They have put more effort into controls than I have seen from any other emulator aggregator.
Not along your current methods, but cheap steam docks are cheap. Get one with ethernet.
Also if you have games installed to another steam host on your LAN you can download from there rather than the internet.

If you have prime, you also have prime-gaming which gives you a few free games every month and also access to a few games via Luna. Ive tried it a few times, never super impressed, but I have gaming machines.
Demand goes up, price goes down. Just like I always learned!
