Oh yeah I did that a while ago so I forgot, but yeah I think that's the case for everyone. Ultimately I think Steam explicitly tells you what info they get and it isn't that much, but that's the "price" for a free game.

No worries if it's not for you though, if your Lemmy client lets you block posts you can set up a filter for Fanatical and you shouldn't see any more giveaways like this.

What are your combos of choice? I remember having a few good ones committed to memory at the time.

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 3 days ago

Yeah it wouldn't install on my phone but would on my old tablet, I wonder if it's 32-bit only.

Fun fact with these Fanatical giveaways, you don't actually even need to sign up (and immediately cancel) their newsletter, you get the Steam key and then they send you an email saying 'please click here to complete your sign-up' or something, which you can safely ignore!

"All this water? Yeah, not meant to be here at all!"

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 2 points 4 days ago

Let me know if there are any good ones! I aim to have an afternoon of trying out a bunch of these sort of games on the Steam Deck every now and again but it's usually too far after the post to be worth adding any comments.

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago (4 children)

I enjoyed it solo, though it did become impossibly hard at one point. I don't know if you need to have friends to help or if I just needed to be better at the game!

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago

FYI for anyone who sorts by new comments, this one is on sale again but can be "claimed" this time

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 4 points 4 days ago

They're all showing as normally-paid apps that are currently discounted to free for me

This was going to be my recommendation. Probably not what OP wants, but definitely what they asked for!

The BBC have preempted your joke

It might be tempting to reach for a conspiracy theory or two, not least because it's hard to hear the name "Skynet" without thinking of the malevolent, self-aware artificial intelligence (AI) system in The Terminator movie franchise.

But there's no connection other than the name and, in any case, real life is always more prosaic.

There's loads of Worms games now though they're all the same sort of thing. I think they just announced an "anniversary edition" of Armageddon, which looks basically the same as the Steam version but ported to modern consoles. Still a banger 25 years on!

Simple air traffic control arcade game for Android, looks to be basically the same as one called "flight control" which I played on my first smartphone over a decade ago!

Indie life sim for Windows, free for Amazon Prime subscribers until 4th December

Minabo – A Walk Through Life is a social simulation game where you walk the path of life while your turnip grows and thrives (or not) in its social relationships.

Life starts when you sprout, time goes by with every step you take, and you can set your pace at any moment. You live and learn: surround yourself with other turnips and interact with them to forge your personality. Your acquired strengths and weaknesses will affect your future interactions.

Build your social circle by maintaining and caring for the relationships that matter the most to you, and run away from the ones that don't. You can adopt many radish-pets and spend your life with them, start a family and breed little turnips, or live fast and die young. There are thousands of ways to live and none are correct! Just live as you wish! (And assume the consequences of your decisions when you rot.)

Dating sim / hack-and-slash RPG for Windows, free on Epic Games for Amazon Prime subscribers until 4th December

Eternights is a dating action game, blending a love story with adrenaline-driven combat as you make the most out of life during the apocalypse. Scavenge for supplies, explore dungeons...and go on dates!

Save the world, and find love along the way.

One day, something – or someone – has turned humans into dangerous monsters. All that interests them now is violence and power. They are what stand between you, a cure, and the world you want. Most importantly? You're fighting for more than just your own survival – you are fighting for those you love.

The impending end of the world makes for a great conversation starter! When you're not exploring dungeons, you can choose to spend time growing closer to a cast of five quirky and lovable characters. Explore their stories and grow closer to them to unlock unique skills and spells you can use in battle.

Scavenging, dungeon crawling, dating...there are just too many things to do in one day, and each area has a deadline! Will you grow closer to your confidant in order to deepen your relationship and unlock new skills? Will you scavenge the wasteland for supplies? Will you grow stronger by training with your companions? Or will you ignore all of that and go to the dungeon the first chance you get? It's up to you, but remember, the clock is ticking.

These dangerous areas – known as the "Wall" – are filled with mystery and danger. As the deadline looms, you will have to quickly overcome traps, puzzles, and dancing minigames to make it through in time. Luckily, you have your confidants by your side to help when things get scary.

There are several fully 2D animated cutscenes that change depending on who you decide to date. Immerse yourself and truly connect with the characters you are spending time with.
