Other than the decent system ruining our future, because a preventable catastrophe has been left to unfold because of corporate greed, the analogy is senseless from a pure logical sense. Of course you aren't just gonna pick the cheapest option when deciding to plan a tunnel or a bridge, you go with the option that makes the most sense. The information problem is of course more about how we knoe the desires to be fulfilled, but even there, don't you think, that most desires, that capitalism fullfills are nothing more but artificial. Nodoby would desire a bigger car, if a bigger car would not exist. And while it is true that former socialist countries had that problem, of not meeting peoples desires, new forms of socialism could utalize the internet to have a democratic edge on that for example. I would highly recommend you, to step out of your neoliberal bubble, and read Thomas Piketty's "A quick history of equality", and look up PlasticPills on Youtube, he has some really interresting videos on how capitalism forges us.

I did some music production on windows, had a lot of vsts and everything worked pretty well. I then lost interrest for a while and switched to linux in the meantime. After starting again, I realize, how much easier it was on windows. While the bitwig plugins are great, there are so many things, like some effects plugins missing, that I really want to have. Of course carla and wine works quite ok, but it still isn't the same as native running plugins. My suggestion is to stick to windows if you do music production somewhat professionally, but if you have the time and motivation to work with a limited set of instruments, go for it. It can only change for the better in the future.

Hey people,

Recently I switched to KDE Plasma on all of my devices and I like it a lot, however one thing I would still like to see is a virtual machine KDE application. I would be more than happy to get my hands dirty, however I don't quite know what I am expecting so I have a few questions:

  • As far as I am aware, Boxes is just an interface, written with GTK, for QEMU. Is doing the same with Kirigami feasible for a solo developer.
  • Moreover I am quite profound in C++ and programming in general, but I never worked on bigger projects
  • I am quite amazed by Parallels in MacOs, would it be possible to copy some features for KDE, i.e a vm occupying a whole virtual desktop, or single windows "popping" out of the vm.

I was discussing with a hardcore neo-liberal, almost to the degree of ancap about government and he pointed out, that when centralizing power thr rights of minorities are often overlooked, he said: "Suddenly 3% of the popultation just becomes a meaningless number that can just be sent to their death". The next day, we were discussing about covid restrictions, where my point was simply, that individual freedoms don't count anymore, when there is harm to other. He simply responded with. "oh the 3% that are actually in danger when getting covid, can just stay inside, as if it was worth it restricting myself for them."

I think it is clear that degrowth can not happen under a capitalist system and when talking about degrowth in it the ideas associated are ofte no more than buzzwords. What exactly does "ethical consumption" mean under capitalism for example.

Also the word degrowth is not proper, a economy can only decrease as long as it can provide necessary goods for citizens, when the popultation grows, the economy has to grow aswell.

I believe, that under communism we won't define ourselfs by our consumption and thus we can get rid of our artificial desires, that now plague our planet. I therefore think that what you describe as degrowth is not a problem in communism, but rather a consequence of it.

On my laptop I use EndeavourOS with Plasma, and on my Desktop I use Fedora with i3wm. Have switched from windows ~1 year ago and I couldn't be happier, haven't had any issues and my devices now do feel like my devices.

I think it is great and after creating an account (which can be confusing at first) the experience is smooth and almost as good as with reddit. I do hope tho, that the influx of new users will sustain, and a lively community will develop, because as of now, the amount of posts feels very managable.
