I have not heard about flockingbird since a long time!

 

The nord theme is very nice but there is an issue with own posts which have a white background and white text. See screenshot

I use FluffyChat and it works quite well. Sometimes there are some issues but in general it does what it needs to do and it is not so slow as element

It is a big issue. At least in Europe they have taken it seriously and have moved towards open access journals, which are now mandatory for all publicly funded research outputs. See https://oa2020.org/

However, the OA model does not solve the problem. Many researchers from the Global South cannot afford the article processing fees.
