Another issue: the wealthy will have unequal access to it compared to others. We can only have nice things (freedom from disease) if there are those willing to ~~pay~~ charge for them. Not everyone can benefit from gene therapy, so it is not truly a benefit to society or humanity, and therefore should not be developed as a biotechnology. As if that ever stopped anyone.

Look, I agree with you, but up to a point. I can barely navigate my own life and I'm responsible for yours? No thank you. I didn't vote for Kang, I wasn't gonna vote for Kodos, and I do not see how any result could possibly be my fault. The ancestors agreed to let fascism rise before I was a single cell in mom's developing uterus. My state votes red, always, no matter what I do. I can't afford to leave, but I believe I have never once had my interests represented by my vote. I'll still vote, because it is my duty as a citizen. My choice or yours, we all get turd sandwiches.
