Yeah, the niche subreddits are what I really hate to leave behind. I could care less about leaving r/politics, r/AskReddit, etc. But I'll miss r/EtrianOdyssey (niche video game series).

But we'll just have to create these communities on Lemmy. I'm in it for the long haul.

I love the Mystery Dungeon games. Most people know about the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon ones, but there are also Etrian Mystery Dungeon I & II, Shiren the Wanderer titles, Taloon's Great Adventure, Chocobo Mystery Dungeon, and more!

I like them because they are pretty casual games you can pick up and put down easily, but if you want to get deeper into the strategy, you can. We didn't get these games in the West until the Nintendo DS era, but they started with the SNES in Japan.

I've subscribed to several Xbox communities on different Lemmy instances. Hoping that one of them emerges as the "main" one.

Ah ok cool, thank you!

Yeah, I didn't understand that either. Its not like video games are some sort of resource that lives may depend on, like r/ukraine which is more understandable. Oh God we wouldn't want to miss a Nintendo Direct or something, would we? 🙄

Disturbingly, there is really no way to know who actually owns a private company like Reddit. Once it goes public, then the owners will be the shareholders (and in reality, the owners are the major shareholders who have a controlling stake).

The only clue to the current ownership is whatever management wishes to disclose. Spez wrote a blog post in 2021 indicating that they issued $250M in "series E funding" to existing and new investors.

If there are any finance bros around here, they may be able to dig up some sort of disclosures from bond auctions to try and see who bought it.

The only confirmed investor I know about is Tencent. They invested in 2019. Its possible they were also some of the "existing investors" Spez referred to in 2021.

Bottom line: nobody knows who owns Reddit. But apparently the owners think this guy Spez is a good fit to run their company, somehow.

Are we blocked from seeing NSFW communities on Beehaw? (Not an issue, I would create an alt for that anyway. Just curious)

So I've started to get familiar with some of the other instances that show up in my "all" feed. Lemmy.ml, lemmy.world are the main two. But what is blahaj.zone? I see that one quite a bit but no one has ever talked about it.

Even if it weren't nonprofit, it would be better run as a worker cooperative where the employees of Reddit made the decisions. Instead, its the capricious whims of Mr. u/spez

Me too. Honestly, Microsoft seems to be in a pretty distant third place in the console wars, so the antitrust concerns don't make a lot of sense to me. Even if Microsoft did make CoD Xbox exclusive, I don't think that would be that big of a deal for Sony and Nintendo, as they have countless other draws.

Additionally, I too think Blizzard is a shit company and there's nowhere to go but up under new ownership.

I use it too for the rewards. I had the exact same thought as you--at least they pay me for collecting data.
