Better than last time I commented on this thread! My gastritis has taken a turn for the better which has had a huge positive effect on my mood. I got some extra hours in work too, after working part time for ages due to being sick. I'm hoping to pick up some private students for online lessons after the summer to earn some more money so I can move out of my house which has been the plan since 2020 but it's been delayed at every turn 😭 2025 is going to be my year... Possibly

The gastritis is..... bad. And I'm tired of working through the pain. But my friend made me dinner this evening which was amazing because I'm so tired of making food that's suitable for me to eat.

Never take ibuprofen on an empty stomach.

I teach English as a foreign language and if any of my students wrote the same way you do I'd cry with joy. You have no problems with accuracy but if you're having trouble speaking then it's fluency you need a hand with. Conversation classes would be a good place to start or as someone mentioned just chatting to someone over the phone or zoom.

Also if you really want to expand your vocabulary, try learning lists of phrasal verbs. Even my most advanced students find them difficult, but native speakers use them all the time so it helps with understanding and will make your English sound more natural.

Girl, no. Our Alabama is most definitely Roscommon.

What's GGG in this context? Good guy Greg??

Edit: it means Good, Giving and Game!

I just dived into some Linklater too! I watched Before Sunrise and Me and Orson Welles. I love Linklater's portrayals of youthful optimism. They make me excited for the future.

Hi all! I'm a big fan of comfortable shoes and I've been wearing eccos for years now. However I've recently come to realise that they cannot be repaired (something to do with the material they're made from).

I'm on the hunt for a new pair of sneakers that are equally comfortable and also repairable.

For context, I spend a lot of time outdoors in a cool temperate climate so the shoes must be waterproof (i.e. leather or equivalent) as well as able to withstand hours of being walked in. I'm also in an urban environment so style is a consideration. I'm not looking for anything with bright colours or fancy designs, but moreso something simple and versatile that I can wear to work, on my bike and to the pub.

If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears! I've recently been looking at some ON trail running shoes but I've been reading mixed things about their ability to withstand heavy use. Plus I've no idea how they compare to ecco in terms of how comfy they are so if anyone has any experience with both I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance!

There's a reason why so many British people live on the Costa del Sol!

Also "Here comes the sun" by the Beatles makes a lot more sense when you realise that it was written by four guys from Northern England.

Browse tumblr. Haven't found my niche yet on lemmy. I'm also learning a new language on Duolingo and am halfway through Ulysses!

The Blindboy Podcast brought up this problem (adult children living with their parents because of the housing crisis) on one of his recent podcasts, but he framed it from the point of view of the adult children. I'm interested to hear what kind of struggles you face on the opposite side, apart from what you've just mentioned here. How did you picture your life when you got to this stage and how has that changed?

Not only that but they seem to be the last place considered for tech updates which would make the system faster and better at helping people.

Once I visited their office where I told them my name and they looked me up on a printed out Excel spreadsheet while sitting in front of a computer 😭 like girl, that list is on a searchable database right in front of you. Why are you looking for my name with a pencil.

I love esponjitas! May I ask which country this is used in??

Discuss.

This whole review had me screaming. I need more people to appreciate this.

(Sorry bout the paywall, The Irish Times should let you read 2 articles for free, 12ft.io doesn't seem to work with them anymore)

I just dropped off my mate to the emergency dept and the staff wouldn't let me stay with him. He's thankfully OK now but needs to stay in overnight. Can anyone suggest some memes to send to him to get him through the night? Maybe hospital related, maybe just wholesome ones.

Shouldn't books be sorted by ISBN? :-)

I stopped drinking on the 18th of March 2023. Because of where I live and how my culture socialises, this was a huge step. But to be honest, in hindsight it was just something I'd been putting off for a long time. The hangovers did just become a nightmare to deal with, plus I didn't feel like I was doing well with my personal relationships because of it. I'm glad to have all that time back, although I miss part of the social aspect. I'm working on creating a sober social life but it's very early days.

How has your sobriety journey been for you?

I absolutely loved using r/stopdrinking as a resource. Now that I'm not on reddit so much I'd love to find a new community here! Has anyone created a sobriety community on the fediverse yet?

POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR BLACK MIRROR SEASON SIX BELOW!

I'm a big fan of Black Mirror but I think I'm the odd one our when it comes to my favourites. My all time favourite out of all the seasons was Metalhead. I loved its Hitchcockesqueness.

I've decided on Mazey Day as my favourite episode of season 6. I love the theme of how being exploited (whether that's being paid a pittance in Starbucks, or being hounded by paparazzi) can turn people into monsters.

What were your thoughts on the latest season? What are your favourite episodes?
