The US law Musk violated would be the Logan Act...

A long time ago I read some cyberpunk novel, and one of the characters had an ocular implant that got infected with malware that flashed spam ads for Indian brothels in his vision 24/7, even with his eyes closed, until he went completely postal.
I have no idea what you're talking about! (packs a bowl...)
Wouldn't put it past him...
Looks like the work of some junior edgelord.
Exactly. Lemmy might give you the warning "This may be incomplete, view on the original instance", but if the only posts missing are ones from defederated neo-Nazi instances, not seeing them is indeed a feature rather than a bug.
If things get big enough that hobbyist instance owners are getting overwhelmed, it might be a good idea to organize a nonprofit, under the NPR business model. Not collecting data or breaking your brain with advertisements, though periodically, they're gonna have to go hat in hand, and beg users to feed their Patreon. Hey, I'm more than happy to throw a little in!
Nice thing about this business model is that being a nonprofit, the point of its existence is to fulfill its mission (to help independent distributed social media thrive), instead of to make money for owners/shareholders.
There's several clients in the works - I'll be looking at Sync for Lemmy, as I was a customer of Sync for Reddit.
Might get to the point where anti-DDOS measures have to be used against AI scrapers.
In the case of that Detonating Craniums board, the content is indeed abusive. Having had the poor taste to peek, (NSFW, trigger: bigotry)

I saw a "joke" about throwing trans people into a woodchipper. Yeah, not funny. That's what they do - make it acceptable to murder people who are different.
They're completely despicable. They need full defederation.
Exactly - for example with weed subs. A lot got summarily banned, the rest NSFW'd, because Spez wants Reddit G-rated for the IPO.
Over here, a Mormon instance defederating a weed-oriented instance isn't going to shut down the stoners' community.
The real person in charge of SpaceX and keeping it successful is Gwynne Shotwell.
