Hotter than the surface of the sun by a factor of ~18000.

Hotter than the suns core by a factor of ~7.

People talk about Icarus flying too close to the sun. Motherfuckers are recreating it in labs 😂

Apple partnering with a sub standard LLM / ChatGPT clone. Classic. Tim Cook needs to go.

When Lemmy was making waves last year when Reddit pulled an “enshittification” of the platform. One of the first things I noticed was how terrible the experience was when trying to navigate to other Lemmy instances.

Hopefully this will help bridge the gap when it becomes generally available.

US needs to follow this and take it a step further by ending tax exemptions for religious organizations

That makes sense now. Thanks for extra context.

The effects of sea level rise from climate change have reached American coasts. Yet we continue to do almost nothing.

  • continued reliance on fossil fuels. As of 2021, reliance on oil, coal, and natural gas at 60% worldwide [2]
  • no desire to implement a diverse range of transportation options (ie, enhanced public transportation). Yet continued desire to widen highway infrastructure
  • no desire to rebuild cities to be more efficient and reduce dependency on car centric transportation (no, EVs will not automagically solve the problems with car centric transportation)
  • no desire to change lifestyle. The amount of meat this country consumes is fucking insane. GHGs from meat production alone account for a third of GHGs [1]
  • the suburban experiment in America and the “American Dream” is a complete failure. We need to stop ripping up diverse ecosystems that help shield or mitigate effects from Mother Nature and replacing them with monoculture suburbs and highways. Case and point: Houston, TX in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Thanks to DMCA, circumventing this protection and sharing it with people is illegal.

Honestly hasn’t stopped people in the past but I suspect it hasn’t been cracked because of how it connects to an external server to verify. Probably need to patch the firmware entirely

It’s crazy how the people and govt have let this go on for so long. This has been a known issue with consumer grade printers for a long time now. I remember my parents bitching about ink costs when I was in grade school. Now these companies have raced to the bottom and are locking them down.

Personally, I have found myself to print less than a dozen pages per year. Usually it’s some government office that wants hard copy. For every instance, I just used my local Office Depot to handle all of my printing needs. So glad I don’t have to deal with printer bs

~~Whoever committed this change thinks updating the text on the UI for this system will automagically fix issue.~~

~~It’s like editing the HTML on your bank’s website to show you have $1B in the bank 😂~~

Issue here committer forgot to update UI to expose the feature person was working on

Tragic way to die. I wouldn’t wish this even on my worst enemies.

We all watch the videos of how to deal with this exact situation but in reality only a few people would be able to react accordingly to save themselves.

The article describes the area of water as a “pond” but the vehicle was fully submerged. Rescuers had trouble with rescue attempts due to the depth. Seems more like a lake to me.

Google is just another whore for the all mighty dollar.

Israel government has deep fucking pockets and the US-Israel relationship validates selling cloud space to host their cyber warfare on Palestine.

What’s the over/under on time to ban for BidenHQ (https://truthsocial.com/@BidenHQ)

Also, that fucking site is asking for a phone number to register. Fuck that.

Found this interesting. Looks like it’s in 🇺🇸. Surprised it has not been towed.

Heard of stories of abandoned vehicles in the Middle East (Dubai?), but with super cars.

Context: looking to build a 4K gaming setup and maintain at least 120 fps. Occasional video editing involved.

Haven’t built a PC in a long time (7-8 yrs at least). Other PC was an Intel but decided to go with AMD this time around since it appears there is minimal difference in terms of performance.

As far as GPU selection, doesn’t seem like there is much diff between 4080 and 4090 so decided to go with the former.

As far as memory and disk, I do realize 128G and 8TB of disk drive is excessive. These might be the areas I will shave off some $$$

For PSU, decided to go with the top tier choice as indicated in this list: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

PSU is something I would prefer not to skimp on. Also PCpartpicker does not list “ASUS | ROG Loki Platinum” for some reason and just selected a similar model.

Open to suggestions, critique, or roast 😂

Maybe it's just me, but I find the default tab group behavior in Safari to be complete ass. It doesn't have the natural Apple feel to it. It feels like an after thought that Apple developers threw in there to compete with Chrome.

Why do I have to open up a separate menu to get to my tab groups? Why can't it be integrated into the same window like Chrome does? Every time I switch between tab groups, it has to reload every site.

I have an account here and while trying to set 2FA, it logged me out before I could set up 2FA code.

Is there a self service option or does an admin have to reset it so I can try again?

Yes, I just watched the Vengeance (2022) film 😂

Video description as of 2023-06-23 10:15 PDT:

This video shows that Reddit refused to delete all comments and posts of its users when they close their account via a CCPA / GDPR request. Posts and comments may contain PII. Specifically, Reddit tells users that they must delete the content themselves, which isn't realistic if a user creates a lot of posts. Even if a user does delete their content, Reddit restores the content within a few days.

Video transcript:

  • 2023-06-13 @ 15:15 PDT: user states he deleted all posts and comments
  • 2023-06-16 @ 10:15 PDT (3 days later): user states all posts and comments have been restored
  • 2023-06-19: user decides to submit a legal request under CCPA to delete content
  • 2023-06-19 @ 11:07 PDT: user receives reply from "Reddit Legal Support" (RLS) which states they will delete the account but not the content associated with the account. It is up to the owner of the account to remove the content [e-mail contents reproduced below]

Hello,

We would be happy to help you delete your Reddit account if you have one. Before we proceed please note:

 1. Account deletion is irreversible.
 2. Posts and comments must be separately deleted before deleting your account. If not separately deleted, the content of the posts and comments will remain visible and disassociated from any account. If you want your posts and comments removed, follow the instructions on our help page.

Once the above mentioned information is removed to your satisfaction, please submit your deletion request by using your Reddit account and this form so we know it's really you making the request.

More information about account deletion is available in our Privacy Policy.

Kind regards,

Reddit Legal Support
  • 2023-06-19 @ 12:02 PDT: user replies back to RLS stating it is unrealistic expectation for end user to manually delete and alleges violation of CCPA [reply reproduced below]
Hello,

If I understand your response properly, you are refusing to delete all data associated with my account. I believe this is illegal and in violation of the CPR. In this case the onus is on you, Reddit, to delete all of the content associated with my account.

It is besides the point but last week I already deleted all of the posts and comments associated with my account. However Reddit has since restored most of the content.

It is untenable to demand all users to manually delete content when Reddit itself does not provide a self-serve mechanism to mass-delete content. Some users have thousands of posts and millions of comments.

Just as a reminder, my CPA request to delete my account and all associated data was made on June 19th 2023 and must be completed by August 3rd 2023.
  • 2023-06-24 @ 10:45 PDT: user has not received a reply from RLS. He decided to painstakingly delete all posts and comments while screen recording the effort. Video continues with the user manually deleting posts for his account (https://www.reddit.com/user/nucleocide). Then fast forwards to the end of the segment where the last posts are deleted
  • 2023-06-25 @ 10:25 PDT: user discovers posts and comments are restored, again

User concludes video and clarifies why this is a violation of CCPA:

At this point it appears impossible to manually delete posts and comments on Reddit and expect them to stay deleted.

By not deleting all posts and comments in an automated way there is no way to guarantee that no PII [Personally Identifiable Information] has been left behind.

For example ...

<user gives example of a comment from 6 months ago on his account which includes his real first name and last name. Screen capture shows the comment was edited recently>

Since there is no guarantee that every single post and comment is free from PII, Reddit must delete all comments and posts from an account upon receiving a GDPR / CPA request.
