Let's bring this dream into reality and vote.

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

So...I'm with you. Fascists are bad, and we need to make sure that Fascists can't hide their fascism when and if we get this country sorted and back on its feet. But I have questions!

  • How do we ensure that we only catch Fascists? Your Magatmap seems to require an image, but no description.
  • What stops me from cooking up an AI image of somebody I don't like with Trump flags and swastika arm bands and getting them submitted to your system?
  • What happens if this guy was a Trumpet in 2016, but is apologetic about it now and swears he's no longer a trumpet?
  • How do you ensure that innocent people not get caught up in your MAGAt Map?
  • What are we supposed to do with the map afterwards?

Liberals have a good reason for questioning your methods here. We don't want to become what we hate because when you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares into you. We've seen it happen time and time again. And those of us who look at your suggestion wonder if we will become Nazis trying to fight Nazis your way.

Doesn't harm the moneyed interests, so the NSA and the FBI can't give a single shit about it.

I'm not going to speak on THIS poster, but...

What is this? A bank of phones caught click-farming in Thailand not too long ago. It's very similar to Chinese and Russian bot farms -- a handful of operators who are connected to a metric fuckton of phones, each signed into a fake account with tools to help these bad actors 'get in character'.

You can usually tell troll farm accounts by their prolific post history. I have a job so I can't stick around and talk politics all day, but these guys do, so they can literally post once every 18 minutes for over a month, day and night, without any interruptions. You might ask "don't you have a job that you should be doing?!" when confronted with constant posting, day and night, but the answer is they DO have a job and that's to push the memes and BS that they are pushing. Another way you can tell? Two replies to the same message -- caused by the troll farm employees stepping on each other's feet, and not properly handing off identitites to each other. Rule 3 says I can't accuse Socialist Berserker of being one of these troll accounts, but Rule 3 doesn't prevent me from correctly pointing out that this sort of operation exists, and how you can tell if an individual is a member of this operation. So...make your own minds up.

Thank you for saying this. Come November, one of two people will walk out with the victory: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Nobody else. We saw in 2016 and 2020 that the Shitgibbon can get LOTS of votes. We had to put up 7 million more votes than they did to win, and it was STILL close. Vote. Get your friends to vote. Get your friends to get their friends to vote. And help as many strangers who are voting Blue to vote as possible.

Nothing should stop you. Harris got this in the bag? No. She doesn't. Go vote. Trump's got no chance to win? No. He does. Go vote. Swifties coming out en masse and you don't need to worry? No. Trump's got fans of his own and you should always worry...and go vote. Go vote to counter every useful idiot and Republican Troll and Russian bot out there who has convinced a Greenie to do the stupid thing and vote third party.

Team Red doesn't deserve sportsmanship. Run that score up nation-wide. Check your registration deadline NOW and check your registration today, and repeat this check at the last day to register to vote. If you don't show up in the roles, you need to register. Screenshot that too so you have evidence you were registered to vote. Make sure you have your ID ready and understand all the hoops you have to jump through. Numerous organisations exist to help you:

Don't let anything get between you and voting Harris in the upcoming election.

Hi. Let me explain my downvote to you, 101.

When you post an article, you get a screen that looks like this:

In that form, you can submit the title as is, or add more context, in the Title field. For instance, you could have given the full title, including the subtitle:

This would have made your post clearer.

Alternatively, in the Body field, you could have included a few lines from the article.

The claim was shared on Russian state-run media Sputnik’s Chinese-language Weibo on Sept. 11, 2024.

“Harris wore the Nova H1 Audio earrings during last night’s debate with Trump,” the claim reads in part. Sputnik cited “American musician Jonnie King” to back its claim.

-and-

A photo comparison between the earrings worn by Harris during the debate and the Nova H1 shows they differ in shape. In particular, the metal portions of both earrings show a major difference.

-and-

Under the debate rules issued by ABC it is forbidden to use props or pre-written notes.

However, ABC did provide pen and paper for each candidate’s use during the debate.

...would have made great fodder for the body of your post.

Either way, and I suspect you would have gotten better reader engagement. Let's not reward bad journalism and ~~bullshit~~conspiracy theory factories, please.

Edit: A word.

Oh, you can change your presentation, here, on the Internet, where the Men are Men, the Women are Men, the Children are FBI Agents, of course Socialist Berserker isn't part of the conclusively proven Russian and Republican mission to siphon away votes from Harris so Trump can steal it, and nobody, and I mean nobody knows I'm a cat? SHOCKED, I tell ya! SHOCKED! 🤣

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Fortunately you're not a moderator and don't get to say what is and is not allowed. Rule 3 does allow us to say that Muslim Americans, or indeed anyone else, who votes Third Party or stays home as morons. We just can't call you (and you can't call us) morons directly.

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Dear reader, we got the Shitgibbon in 2017 because a very small fraction of our voters in each of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania (1.07% in MI, 0.81% in PA, 1.04% in WI) defected to the Green candidate. These states were lost by a narrower margin than the number of voters who voted Stein, allowing Trump to run roughshod over the country for 4 years, being a Russian Asset and damaging the fabric of our nation's norms, making the place a worse place. It doesn't take a lot of voters, and yes, I am worried that some Lemmy voters will read the trip this poster is posting and decide to give Stein a chance, like those voters did in 2016.

I can't call this guy a moron because Rule 3, but I can say 'if you vote third party in this election with what's at stake, you're a fucking moron' as a general statement. Please make the smart choice. Don't listen to this ... poster.

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (3 children)

Oh man, what did you do? I'd LOVE to get blocked by these ... people!

[–] jhymesba@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Dear reader, look close at this poster's words. They deliberately misread a statement that I think this poster will disappear after election day, mission successful or not, because after Election Day the die has already been cast. I'm sure they'll pop back in here, possibly with a new account, starting some time in 2027, assuming we have elections if Trump wins, to spew the same bullshit in order to peel off votes from the Left again so the Right once again has a shot of stealing it and forcing Project ~~2025~~2028 down our throat. But of course the poster misreads this into believing that I'm trying to get him shut down.

  • I have not reported his posts once, despite my clear belief that he's skirting the rules and is actively reporting us, getting us muzzled for even minor infractions of the rules.
  • I do not have the power to make this poster's posts disappear. Even if I did, I wouldn't, because this bullshit needs challenging
  • In fact, like many other people this poster is attacking, the only thing I'm doing is repeatedly pointing out the visible and glaring flaws in this poster's reasoning.

Folks, voting third party is stupid. I can say that under Rule 3. If you cast your vote for anyone but Kamala Harris, you are an idiot. I can say that under Rule 3 as well, though it's a bit murkier as I might be considered as attacking a poster (hopefully the 'if you do x, you are y' construct helps). All these Muslim voters falling for the Third Party bullshit are gonna get themselves Project 2025'd right into a concentration camp and are blathering idiots if they do that. I can say that under Rule 3.

Don't be the blathering idiot by listening to this....poster (yes, I have MUCH stronger words I want to use, but...Rule 3...). If your vote wasn't important, there wouldn't be massive operations by Team Red, Team Russki, and Team Useful Idiot to get you to waste it. In the Presidential Election, one of two people will take the Oath of Office next January: Kamala Harris, or Donald Trump. One of them will be another wishy-washy pseudo-Liberal with a long history of toeing the line of American 'best practice', who will continue to support Israel, favour corporations when they think they can get away with it, do more lip service to progressive causes than actual action, and use the other party's bad behaviour as cover for their own. The other will be a hard-core Conservative who will take pride in tearing down Progressive ideals, who will reverse the gains Women, Gays, Minorities, and Transgendered People have made over the past 20 years, who will expel the very Muslims that are complaining about Palestine, who will reset the American 'best practice' into something that more resembles North Korea or Russia, who will shut down any criticism of the new normal as 'woke', and who has an action plan set to go DAY ONE if he wins that will make this country into a Conservative Nightmare.

Third Parties can't win. Period. You'd literally have to convince every single Democrat to vote for Jill Stein world wide to get Stein in office with how bitterly divided this country is. Miss 25k voters in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, and Kamala Harris would be a spoiler for Jill Stein. I know this. You know this. Team Red knows this. Team Russki knows this. Team Useful Idiot knows this. Hell, Mr. Berserker here knows this. Between our antiquated Electoral College and our equally antiquated First Past the Post, NOWHERE in the USA, even Maine and Alaska, is it safe to split your vote. And the consequences for getting this wrong are so high. We warned you in 2016 that if you didn't hold your nose and vote Clinton, we'd find out how bad Trump really is. Look at 2017 through 2020. Remember the anguish of watching Trump win and the utter Chaos Clown Show that ensued. It was fucking Halloween those entire 4 years, and let's get frank, Biden's struggles were directly because of that 4 year Chaos Clown Carnival.

And the Head Chaos Clown himself is back. And much like 2016, the usual suspects are out en force to shove their BS that you shouldn't pick the lesser evil. Don't buy the bullshit. Listen to us. You didn't listen to us (well, them because I was one of you and stayed home after buying Nader's bullshit about Both Sides Bad...) in 2000 and look what happened. The Afghanistan debacle, the Iraq mistake, Katrina, and one hell of an economic recession laid at the Cowboy Dunce's feet. You didn't listen to us in 2016, and look what happened. Scratching Climate Change from the government records, utter chaos, the Afghanistan retreat debacle (this is on Trump, Biden just followed the agreed upon plan on the notion that ripping the bandaid off was a good idea), the completely chaotic mishandling of the pandemic including firing the pandemic team ahead of time, and the resulting economic malaise, and the constant Chaos Clown Circus. Don't make those mistakes again. Because Trump has promised us it will be worse this time.

If you live in Maine or Alaska, you can pick Third Party candidates for everything but President. The Electoral College still requires you to pick Harris if you don't want Trump. But everything below? Your vote for the Green or Socialist or Constitution or Libertarian candidate won't result in the Chaos Clown getting in as long as you mark the Democrat above the Republican in your ranking. Hell, mark the Libertarian, Green, and/or Socialist above the Dem on your ballot, as long as the Dem is marked above the Rep in your ranking. That'll ensure the Chaos Clown Circus is not allowed to set up in 2025.

Thanks for reading!

This time around, the US has seized a network of Russian-run internet domains, and sanctioned ten people including Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT (formerly Russia Today), for “activities that aim to deteriorate public trust in our institutions”. Sanctions include freezing any property or assets in the US, and potentially restrictions on any US citizen or company that works with them.

Here are five key features of Russian information manipulation we identified, and which can help understand the latest election-meddling scandal.

  1. Using local influencers
  1. Fake news outlets
  1. Adding fuel to the fire
  1. Flipping the script
  1. Humour

Americans are deeply frustrated with politics. They see the country heading in the wrong direction. They are regularly forced to choose between two candidates they don’t particularly like. Between 40 and 50 percent of the country identifies not as Democrat or Republican but as independent.

Here is what it takes to get on the ballot in Pennsylvania. Read through that, noting the difference between candidates for “political parties” and “minor political parties.” Imagine you are thinking about putting forth a challenge to an incumbent state officeholder but don’t want to run as a Democrat or a Republican. What are the odds that you get tripped up by the rules?

The problem, of course, is that Americans have strong views about specific things on which they are often not going to be willing to compromise. The Forward essay criticizes the far left for wanting to get rid of guns and the far right for wanting to get rid of gun laws. But that’s not where the parties are, because the parties are responsive to the coalitions they’ve built. If you simply take some independents and sit them down — much less partisans! — you’re going to very quickly find a lot of important issues on which there is not a reachable consensus. Then what?

While rebutting another post here on Lemmy, I ran into this. This says exactly what I want to say.

I am not a friend of Biden's Administration. I think they drug their feet over a variety of things ranging from holding Trump and his goons accountable for January 6th through rulemaking on issues like OTC Birth Control and abortion rights, and yes, I think he's too quick to please big business. But then I remember what the alternative is, and ... well, disappointed in Biden or not, I'm voting for him. Because my wife is a Black bisexual goth woman, four strikes under Team Pepe's tent. And I have my own strikes for marrying her as a White dude, and respecting her right to not have kids since she doesn't want them is another strike against me. And I care about my Non-Christian, Gay, Transgender, and Minority friends, and will never willingly subject them to Team Pepe.

Saw this today, and ... well, I'm not going to be so forgiving to people suggesting to vote Third Party rather than vote for Biden. If Trump wants me to do something, and you want me to do that same something, that tells me you're aligned with Trump.

So, my thought here is that I really feel like this should be leading the effort to get Joe Biden returned to office in 2025. This shit really does scare me -- how efficiently the GOP has planned to do this shit, and how abjectly bad the Democrats are at bringing this up. Maybe it's because I'm not a political campaign runner and there's something I'm missing, but man, it feels like this would be IMPORTANT to get in front of the voters? What are your guyses' thoughts on this topic?
