I really don't get why they didn't bring on more mods from their community. They've been around for more than 6 months. There's no users that have earned the admins' trust in that time?

It's not a coincidence who the developers and early adopters are - people firmly opposed to capitalism don't want to be trapped on a corporate internet

@iridaniotter Hopefully we (Hexbear) also federate with lemmy.ml. The decision isn't made yet.

@Raphael I don't think Lemmygrad (or Hexbear, which I mostly post on) need to try and hoover up a bunch of new users from this, or worry about getting shut out. The community was getting on fine before. This will contribute some growth, which is nice, but there's no *need* to grow aggressively. Use lemmy.ml to do propaganda/agitation, because you know they'll never defederate. It'll be a useful shared forum while this remains its own independent space.

I always walked to school as a kid and it was very high priority to me that the neighborhood I live in now allows my kids to do the same
