i agree that there are a lot of pointless "free vs open source" discussions, but to say that open source and/or free software hasn't been/hasn't been successful is to have misunderstood what "success" would be in projects of this kind.

@furrowsofar i'm not promoting discord, i'm saying that discord has been adopted by many open source communities

"life" in the [#fediverse](https://clj.social/tags/fediverse) became more fun after I discovered [#lemmy](https://clj.social/tags/lemmy), being able to follow and comment on topics published "there" in c/fediverse@lemmy.world

@H3wastooshort no doubt the issue is not privacy but open communication with a group of people
if the issue is privacy, discord is not the right tool

I always looked to Slack when it came to real-time communication for business/foss

well, I've been positively surprised by discord for communicating with the foss project community
