The rendering in interestingengineering article is a stock image. An older SCMP article gives a much weirder rendering which matches the whitepaper the lead researcher published on I-shaped hypersonic configurations.

So I have no idea what the blurry ass rocket pic is supposed to be, maybe it was a test vehicle for just the engine, maybe SCMP misattributed it, maybe the team dumped the whole "I-shaped configuration" thing.

Presumably any ram or scram-jet engine will require a rocket engine or other assist, assuming it's not a hybrid like the SR-71.

To give loans to develop resource extraction and export with the requirement of cutting education and investment into added-value products.

It probably is, the whole reason supersonic passenger flight looked feasible for a bit was that turbine technology hadn't caught up so slower jets weren't that much less efficient than supersonic jets.

But fuel concerns aside, it's kinda silly to compare a billion dollar fighter jet built with 60s technology to a 747-sized aircraft built for passenger flight with modern technology. Just wildly different environments, purposes, and resources.

you’re trying to paint the entirety of Ukraine as nazis

I said that nazis have gone to Ukraine for military training in a post that implied Russia was even more fascist.

This doesn't imply that all of Ukraine's military are nazis, only that nazis have gone to Ukraine for military training.

Ya'll need better reading comprehension.

Because they swallowed the propaganda from tucker carlson and his ilk.

It's fucking wild if this guy considered Ukraine so woke that he had to go to Russia.

smh. How are you ever going to learn to catch mice when you can't catch one in your own bed?

Espresso doesn't refer to the strength of the coffee, only that it's brewed under pressure.

You can also use BULK INSERT for csvs or just INSERT INTO and some text editing depending on the specifics.

This is more for one-off stuff like analyzing some 10,000 row spreadsheet you've been handed that you could probably do with formulas in excel, but it's easier to use sql, but not worth building a proper process for.

I keep an empty sql DB just for importing and working with spreadsheets to minimize how much I have to fuck with excel.

More apt, IMO: Republicans fear their base. Democrats hate their base.

The dems and their staff, pundits, op-ed writers, etc know that the people don't like war and that the hyper-focus on oppressing trans people, especially children, is weird and off-putting, there's tons of polling on this. But try to tell them that and they'll give you some west-wing brained horseshit about how actually it's virtuous and necessary to betray your base and triangulate yourself 1 inch to the left of the republicans.

I don't know if that's better or worse than being called a Russian bot for pointing this out.

Trump deported fewer people than Obama or Biden per year because many states and cities resisted.

Looks like the dems are going to cooperate with Trump this time.

We shouldn't have expected anything else from the guy who made his name by splitting with the party to oppose desegregation.

I guess if Ukraine can't hold the territory, we can still punish Russia by blowing Ukrainian children's legs off for the next several decades.

FEMA camps (lemmy.ml)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml to c/showerthoughts@lemmy.world

Back during the Bush and Obama years, I remember hearing so many right-wing conspiracies about FEMA camps.

Why didn't anyone ask "If FEMA has the ability to set up camps and transport large numbers of people, why aren't they doing that every time there's a big hurricane or wildfire?"

Looks like it's having a measurable effect.

The bill in question is the one Biden tried to pass, but was blocked by republicans after Trump called it a bad bill, despite containing only things the republicans want.

It would enable the president to shut down the border and gives billions to ICE, CPB, US Marshals, etc to increase detention capacity, train additional personnel, etc. It also gave billions to Israel and Ukraine.

Kamala gonna have the immigrant vote locked up.

Among other changes to immigration law, the measure would make it more difficult to gain asylum in the United States and increase detentions and deportations of those crossing into the country without authorization. It would also effectively close the border altogether if the average number of migrants encountered by immigration officials exceeded a certain threshold — an average of 5,000 over the course of a week or 8,500 on any given day. The bill also would give the president power to close the border unilaterally if migrant encounters reach an average of 4,000 per day over a week.
