I feel this on a deep level because I see it happen so often.
Working in a niche field I see this a lot. For example, we needed an adapter for an amplifier from a small research equipment company. The provided us with a 3d printed component MacGyvered with existing hardware. I would imagine the total number they will ever need to make would be less than 100. I can't imagine a better use for 3d printing.
He also has a Ph.D. strangely enough.
I used to work with a neurologist who was formerly a chiropractor until he realized it was a bunch of quackery and decided to become a real doctor.
I know it's not exactly the same, but once you hit the max, why not remote into another VM and continue?
Now that he doesn't have to worry about getting reelected, he doesn't have to pussyfoot around anymore.
