Cats are one of the few mammals that kill for sport aside from humans. I’m sure it’s something aside from that and we’re the root cause, but it’s something to think about.

Your comment makes me feel self conscious as a mid 30s bachelor lol. After I got divorced…and kept the house I bought for us and our future family, I now live alone in a 3500sqft house.

It’s a god damn burden more than anything. There’s so much wasted space, and everything is more. More expensive to maintain, more expensive to heat and cool, and so much more to clean. Otherwise, I live a pretty modest life; cook, clean, and maintain everything solo.

I really just like my location and workshop. I’d be more than happy to have 800sqft living… the thing is that this house was cheap relatively speaking ($245k in 2017).

At this point, it would cost substantially more for me to downsize and move… I kinda feel trapped but more in an analysis paralysis way. So many variables and too many decisions.

It really is frustrating. I started off with kbin, but have found myself using Lemmy more simply due to being able to use wefwef, which is inspired by Apollo.

Still learning the ropes here but some things are just annoying af.

Can’t seem to access the photo you’ve linked. Now I’m even more curious.

Small price to pay for security. Maybe some small features are worth giving Zuckerberg and friends access to the most intimate personal shit in your life. For me it’s not a problem.

I think people are open minded about migration, but this place is not exactly a warm welcome to new users. For every 1 person that comes and stays, I’d estimate that 5 do not.

It’s frustrating to navigate, it’s not straightforward on how everything works, the differences between “magazines, people, and threads” is not spelled out…how the fediverse is integrated.

Without a coherent and cohesive redesign and or some polished mobile apps to bring it together, it’s futile and wasting the momentum given to it imo.

Coming from Apollo and using Reddit for 15 years, as a tech savvy person, I can say with certainty that the average person (specifically Reddit user) won’t make it much past creating an account. Maybe Christian could work on something for the fediverse. I’d pay for a polished mobile app if he released one.

The hard part for me over the past couple of days is the familiarity, yet completely different way things work.

  • I still don’t know how to see only things I’m subscribed to.

  • still not receiving notifications

  • still having issues searching for and finding new topics etc.

Been only on mobile though, which is very much the likely reason. And the same reason that most people will not stay. It’s not the lack of groups and content. It’s the ease at which they can jump into it. The easier it is (for a mobile user), the more people will come, and the niche forum content will organically arise.
