That could be an issue with your instance being overloaded. I have similar issues with lemmy.ml through Jerboa and the website.

Was looking at Peertube earlier, but it seems much harder to pick an instance than it was with Lemmy or Mastodon for me.
I've really like Budgie the few times I tried it. If they can get Wayland working at some point in the future I'll definitely try it again.
I never paid for it before and I wouldn't start now. Especially not after how they've been handling the whole situation.
I do agree with what you're saying, though. Many people would have been fine with paying to keep their favourite apps.
