Okay a lot going on here and not really a lot of information

First thing I would check is does your motherboard have error lights? Even my computer thats 20 years old has lights that flash in patterns as booting. You use this to find out which part of the booting sequence failed, power, ram, video card, CPU etc. Find out which motherboard you have and find the owners manual. If you have SLI available it's an expensive motherboard and most likely has this feature.

Second, double check everything is plugged into the motherboard, ram all cables etc. Something may have shaken loose?

Might be worth physically inspecting the video card. That you could boot up once makes me think this failed. Maybe a capacitor on the video cap exploded or got knocked off.

Lastly try and take the 1080 out of your girlfriends computer and see if you can boot with that. This would help narrow down issues?

One more thing check if you have an igpu. Something may have failed and the motherboard switched to on board graphics. They'll be extra vga/dvi/HDMI ports on the back. Your lack of video could just be from having your display plugged into the wrong port. So try to hook up into any video out put there.

Also perplexity, chat gpt and Gemini can be helpful in trouble shooting.

Godspeed

This is just sad. Whether she lied about McDonald's or not has no bearing at all on who I will vote for in the coming election. In the grand scheme of things this is meaningless. In fact if this is literally all that can be dug up about Harris it kind of speaks highly of her.

At the end of the day we all lose cause essentially elections are coming down to whoever is the lesser of two evils and not someone you stand behind.

Ugh I know people feel strongly about FSD and Tesla. As some one who uses it ( and still pays attention hands on wheels when activated) when FSD is active as soon as it sees anything resembling emergency lights it will beep and clearly disengage. I am not sure, but it's possible this person probably is just using Tesla as a scape goat for their own poor driving. However in my experience it will force the driver to take control when emergency lights are recognized specifically to avoid instances like this.

eBay is your friend, Shield came out about 9 years ago so lots on the used market. Also the phoning home for the paranoid can also be handled. Since it's been around for so long there's not a lot left someone hasn't already figured out. Maybe not the perfect answer but worth considering. As a media player it just works and it's tried and true.

Have you looked into maybe getting a shield and changing out the launcher? It's a great emulator and will play any video file thrown at it. Worth looking into if you can't find any sbc alternative.

Ah falling down the rabbit hole. If you're only looking to transcode videos stay away from the graphics card. Look into Intel quick sync. Newer Intel cpus can transcode over a dozen 4k streams at a time using little power. However the next issue depends on what operating system you want to use, Windows, Linux, docker container or proxmox to run Plex/emby/jellyfin. They all come with their own issues/caveats to actually getting quick sync to work. However each is well documented. Learning is the fun part. I went down a similar route ended up with a nuc12pro running proxmox running a whole bunch of stuff but primarily used for Plex running in an lxc container. They are small powerful and don't use a lot of power and importantly also well documented.

I think the best you can do is use pihole with unbound so all dns requests go directly to root servers so no middle man involved. If you have a raspberry pi and use dietpi it is very easy to setup.

I have not tried shucking drives but I imagine they should work. Currently have 20tb Seagate ironwolf ST20000NT001. The script takes two seconds to run and needs to be redone everytime you update the Synology software which doesn't seem to be overly frequent. Running the script or not you have the same full functionality. Script just removes the warnings.

Haha no, I really over did it. Figured it was better to have more then less and even ecc ram is fairly cheap so why not. I eventually wanted to see if it was possible to create a ram disk to run Plex in but I run it and some other *arr programs off the m.2 drives and they are really snappy.

I'm sure you read the same reddit thread I did saying that the xs series only accept Synology drives which is totally incorrect. That being said it will throw up the warning about not using Synology drives or ram but everything works as normal. If the warnings bother you you can run the script from here https://github.com/007revad/Synology_HDD_db And the warnings will go away.

Hi there, have the 1823xs+ works fine with non Synology drives. Have 8 20tb seagate drives, an Intel optane m.2 and wd sn850x 4tb. Also upgraded to 64gb of Kingston ram. No problems at all, thing is a beast.

Valid point, and again I haven't done this myself, but it seems you only need the VPN for the initial sign up and then you can login normally after that. Not perfect for everyone but an option to consider.

Also, and I guess I'm making a huge assumption but I'd imagine most people here have access to a VPN

I know this may be blasphemy but if you use a VPN to sign up from certain countries you can get YouTube premium for like 25 bucks for the year. Haven't tried it personally but I've seen it mentioned a million times.

If they go to war with adblockers though some one smarter then me will probably come out with a way to just download the video and cut out ads post.
