US did pay the price once, very small for what it did, 9/11.

And Bush killed millions afterwards. Now the Democrats want to work with them.

Chinese authorities are demanding wealthy individuals and companies double-check their taxes for unpaid liabilities in a move that threatens to further dent investor confidence in the world’s second-largest economy.

If rich people can't pay taxes, they shouldn't be investing.

“China’s fiscal deficits have reached a tipping point,” said Gary Ng, a senior economist at Natixis. “There is more urgency to find alternative revenue sources . . . and taxing the wealthy and some companies creates a less direct economic impact on most residents.”

Economists should be sent to Mars tbh

i know i'm being a nerd but i despise the term 'taxpayer funds'/'taxpayer money'. besides being completely wrong in nearly all cases, it places taxes above the people, above labor.

'American taxpayer is paying for the genocide in Gaza'. No, every person/entity using U.S. Dollars is paying for it. Even foreign countries are indirectly paying for it.

if you want the mainstream perspective look up 'quantity theory of money'. from that it follows, less spending means less money and less inflation. so, spending rules reduce inflation by constraining the Government (but not commercial bank lending).

it can be true (sometimes), if you leave the economy with massive unemployment due to insufficient spending so that people don't have money, it slows down and eventually shrinks but hey atleast there is ze price stabilité.

if you want non-mainstream macroecon books, these two ones I have read and can recommend. 1 2

The profits being made on those assets aren’t being kept for Russia to use in the future. They’re now being used to fund Ukraine

Rachel, Where do "profits" on these assets come from? These aren't corporate bonds but Government bonds. The Governments (US, UK and others) are paying the defence contractors using public money.

If there were no Russian foreign reserves being stolen, would the west not have sent weapons to Ukraine? Of course not! The weapons manufacturers have to make profits, it would come out of a different Government account.

They are making excuses to make it look like the public isn't paying for it.

Nearly drowned once falling into a lake and not knowing how to swim. I didn't think about death, it was more "how do I get out". Luckily someone else got my hand.

According to senior defense officials, the Israeli government is not seeking to revive hostage talks and the political leadership is pushing for the gradual annexation of large parts of the Gaza Strip. In closed-room discussions, these officials say the chances of reaching a hostage deal appear slim right now. One of the reasons cited is that since negotiations were suspended, there has been no discussion among international players involved in the talks.

In addition, they say, Israel's political leaders have not held any discussions with the various security branches about the condition of the hostages. Army commanders in the field who spoke with Haaretz say the recent decision to launch operations in northern Gaza was taken without any in-depth discussion. They said it appeared that the operations were aimed principally at pressuring local residents, who were again told to evacuate the area for the coast as winter is approaching.

It is possible that the operation is laying the groundwork for a decision by the government to put into effect the so-called surrender or starve plan of Maj. Gen. (ret.) Giora Eiland. That plan calls for all the residents of northern Gaza to be evacuated to humanitarian zones in the south, with those choosing to remain deemed Hamas operatives and legitimate military targets. While Gazans in the south are getting humanitarian assistance, those who remain in the north will face hunger.

Defense officials who were asked to respond to the Eiland plan pointed out that it violated international law and that the chances of the United States and the international community supporting it were virtually zero. They said it would further undermine the legitimacy of Israel's entire Gaza offensive.

i know shocked-pikachu but still a good read

I have a residential proxy located in the U.S. The problem is I can only use these on browsers supporting proxy.

What I want is to setup the proxy on my VPS and have my phone connect to it using wireguard.

Is this possible?

Overall? We made technical errors all the time - most get caught. Selling the prototype has an element of Occam's razor isn't excusable either. @suuuoppp's posts today in are line with what I remember hearing back when we were colleagues, and it takes mad huevos to post that. 👀
