Exactly where I saw this too lol. Idk what the issue with the link is.

It's gotta be Qi2. But it's a well-known standard so why would they not mention it?

[–] ElPussyKangaroo@lemdro.id 3 points 5 days ago

100+ countries getting inaccurate information. Woohoo!

[–] ElPussyKangaroo@lemdro.id 4 points 6 days ago

Thank you. For once, I'm happy they made a good change.

Magnetic power bank? But no mention of Qi2 support. So no magsafe implementation then.

I use a Poco F4. F5 or F6 should be good enough too! Most Xiaomi devices have massive custom ROM support. Plus openly available firmware updates.

When your entire motivation is to replicate something that you didn't have confidence in the first time, you get Google's Android.

No way! I wonder what changed their minds?! 🙄

What does this mean for other chromium browsers like Vivaldi? I like Vivaldi.

DUDE I SWEAR! We already had a "Without Internet" Nearby Share. WHY DO I NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET?! WHY GOOGLE?!

[–] ElPussyKangaroo@lemdro.id 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Why Google releases replacement products before feature parity, I will never understand.

Unfortunate but true.

I use Anilist to track my anime and manga. But haven't found anything that provides a similar experience in regular movie and TV show tracking, or even books.

For games, there's a service called Backloggd that uses the IGDb database. For movies, I have used Letterboxd but the Android app is garbage at best.

Haven't seen any on here yet... Would love it if someone could do this...

I recently found out that Android's kernel is VERY different from any Apple implementation. Never really crossed my mind that there are different types of kernels.

This made me wonder - if the microkernel is so much better, at the cost of being complicated to develop an OS for, would Android be better on microkernel?

Please enlighten me. I'm only trying to learn more.

Also, do interact, Lemmy needs good conversation.

This is just an example, but there really needs to be a way to make sure they post a proper changelog... Like, is there a limitation on characters? Can't we set up a way to import the release notes from Github? Why is it this way?

It's a big question. I know.

But given that we have the source code to Android (AOSP) and the community to collaborate with, couldn't we just create an entire ROM filled with the necessary applications and utilities, all open source, and with modern UI?

It'll take a shit load of time, and effort. Definitely. But maybe if we banded together? A unified OS running only open source software, with the option for Google Services via something like MicroG, so that we don't need to worry.

I'm no expert. I'm just floating an idea. But I'd love to know if this is possible, step-by-step...

Edit: I know custom ROMs are a thing. I use one. I'm just saying, what if we go ahead and make an open source ecosystem that runs under the same project, so that there's a set of services and apps that are free, open source and non-corporate.

Edit2: I forgot the Lineage project exists. Nevermind 🤦🏻‍♂️. Let's just try to support it. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Title

Google opts you into absolutely random feature testing, without your consent.

My entire family is on Android 12, and everyone uses Google Phone for calls (more out of necessity than choice).

Google Phone used to use bubbles to allow interaction with a call in the background. It had 4 options, including hold and end. This bubble could be moved literally anywhere on screen and it would retain that position the next time a call would be placed. This allowed for maximum reachability.

Then over the past year or two, I've noticed that Google would switch to the new Call Chip method of background call handling. It's a dumbass little chip in the top left portion of your device's screen (in your status bar). No, you cannot reach it unless you move your entire hand. No, it has no function besides showing you the call duration. No, tapping on it will not give you a list of important and common actions. Instead, it will open the Call Screen. And yes, it manages to cancel out the one function the status bar has in Android - NOTIFICATION ICONS.

WHY GOOGLE?! WHY GOOGLE?!

And every week or two, they'd go back on that fucking decision, so I'd have hooes of getting the bubble back... Only for them to shred any hope I'd had left. Now, as ass backwards as it might be, this update is NOT the reason I'm pissed off.

Here's a bright idea, Google - DON'T START TESTING SOMETHING IF YOU HAVEN'T DECIDED IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO DO IT.

And even more importantly, DON'T ENROLL ME INTO YOUR FUCKING A B TESTING UNLESS I ASK FOR IT. FUCK YOU.

I know it's a necessary part of testing, but to not only enforce it onto users by default (opt out instead of opt in) but also be indecisive as fuck and keep pissing off average users (my mom and her mom send their regards, fucking assholes) by switching it on and off like a fucking toddler with a torch is just absolute dogshit.

As much as I love Android, THIS is one of the reasons why people prefer iOS. Apple rarely goes back on shit and they don't test their half-baked shit with their customers by playing bait-and-fucking-switch.

Fuck you Google. I LOVE Android. I really do.

But you... I hate so much of what you choose to be. I loathe you. Fuck off!

EDIT: THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. APPARENTLY, ALL IT TOOK WAS FOR ME TO RELOGIN TO THE INSTANCES. SED LYF INDEED.

I'm logged into 3 instances, the fossware instance, the lemdroid instance and lemmy.world. But anytime I try to vote or comment on a lemmy.world post, it shows me the "Not Logged In" toast notification.

And for lemdroid, it just does nothing...

Any solution?

I was using Infinity for Reddit (I'm sorry, I know...), and noticed the transparent Navigation Bar... Is this something that is an app-side thing or system-side thing?
