Why would you not want containers managed by systemd?
You get the benefits of containerisation and you don't have to learn the arcane syntax of some container engine or another.

No. You need to request your Netflix video, you need to ACK the segments of it you receive and a lot more.
At the very least you'll need to maintain a detailed whitelist of allowed domains and especially for the manufacturer some packets might he OK, like checking for updates, while others you'll wanna block.

It's likely a lot easier to just get a dumb screen and have the smart in a device you control.

Am I too harsh […]?

No. If there's no way to verify anything then all we have to go on is their word.
The word of a company generally isn't worth a whole lot. Same with Telegram.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

My point. We don't have code so we have to trust them blindly.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Telegram was never safe. All anyone ever had was their word that some chats are end-to-end encrypted.

I am using a Samsung phone

Well, don't. I know that's not immediately helpful, but Samsung is well known for shipping tons of useless bloatware in their Android ROM and not giving a shit about user privacy.
I think it was their CEO who suggested simply not having sensitive conversations within earshot of their Smart-TVs, when it became known that they're always listening.

Throwing Fairphone into the pot. They're well supported by LineageOS and have the additional advantage of being user-repairable.
But they only ship inside Europe.

People; what a bunch of bastards.

Fuck amazon, though.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago

Really simple. Just ask it to point out the error. Also maybe tell it how the code is wrong. And then hope that the new code didn't introduce new errors in formerly working sections. And that it understood what you meant. In a language that is inherently vague.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Flohmarkt? Seems simple enough.

Yes.
There used to be a service where you set an amount you paid each month and you could then mark pages/services for donation. At the end of the month your money would be split between all the pages/services you marked.
It was called flattr.
The elegance of this system is that you can set aside an amount of money you're comfortable spending on art, or whatever you wanna categorise it as. So you're fully in control of your spending. If videos/songs/articles/things cost a flat amount it's easy to lose track of the total.

I'm trying to get networkd to connect to a wireguard endpoint, specifically ProtonVPN, in case it matters. I just can't get it to connect. Has anyone had success with that? Specifically without using wg-quick.

Looking for someone to take over our lease for a 3 1/2 apartment in Petite-Patrie (H2S) starting February 1st 2024.
Lease goes until 31st of October 2024 with option of renewal.
Monthly rent is $1665 including hot water and parking behind the house (electric bill is extra).

The apartment was completely renovated in 2018 with new isolation, windows and doors. It is on the ground floor, very quiet and in walking distance to metro stations (Fabre and Beaubien), supermarkets, cafés and shops.
The bedroom and office both have built-in storage closets. You have full access to the garden in the back and can use it as you wish. Cats are no problem but you will have to check for other pets.
Appliances are NOT included in the lease and we bought them new in 2018 (Stove, fridge with freezer drawer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer). All are good quality appliances (Whirlpool, Maytag) that work great and we'd prefer them taken over from us (price is negotiable).
All our furniture is also up for sale.

Please send me a message if interested.

By that I mean randomly generated playlists. Based on either one or multiple tags, songs or artists. Finite or infinite.

Ideally it would allow combining local sources with remote ones for discovering new music. Thinking along the lines of audioscrobbler, Bandcamp and SoundCloud. Maybe one could even hook into Spotify's API, of they allow that.

Does something like this exist? I'm currently running Navidrome and while it's pretty and functional, it's very much a classic Mediaplayer, that just happens to be a website.

Hope this fits here.

When the screen blanks liftoff simply resets to the default view. As a result it forgets:

  • The feed you were scrolling through
  • ~~The position in the feed~~
  • The post/comment you were writing

Makes it annoying to write even moderately long posts/comments because you constantly have to be on the lookout for the screensaver or disable it. And how you don't get distracted when authoring a post/comment.

Seeing this on Android 13 and liftoff 0.10.9

After I just deleted about two pages of comment, because Android gesture navigation is fun that way 😑, I really wished liftoff would save the unsent comment as draft or at least ask me if I really want to abandon this comment.

This is on android. What I mean is when you try to scroll the feed and happen to touch an image, instead of scrolling the feed I get these colored circle segments telling me this can't scroll any further. But that shouldn't even be an option because there is only a single image.
See this post for an example. For some reason the image does scroll ever so slightly.

Embedded image being ![](url).
Scrolling down is no issue but scrolling up leads to the view position jumping back down, as soon as the images starts entering the frame. The only way I found to scroll back up is scrolling really fast. Maybe so the image fully enters the view from one draw to the next.

I'm currently running Iodé and an considering switching to Ubuntu phone, but ultimately I'd like to give PostmarketOS a shot. Can the Ubuntu phone support translate to faster development for PostmarketOS?

Title. The language of a post or comment is never displayed, nor can it be defined when writing posts or comments.
This leads to posts/comments with the language set to "undetermined" which leads to them appearing to users that didn't select the actual language.
